Opinion on Teins SS Coilovers

Hey, I just want to know how does the Tein's SS coilovers feel compared to our stock suspension? Meaning over potholes and etc. I live in the city..so its terrible potholes..and I wanted to know is it stiffer (even at the softest settings) than the stock shocks+springs? Any Tri-state owners opinion would help alot.

Thanks!

It depends on where you set the damping. IMO if you set it on the softest it's going to be pretty close to OE ride. Of course if you have it slammed to the ground it's going to make it a little firmer.

TEIN SS are the closest you are going to get to maintaining some ride comfort while improving handling, in terms of a coilover.

On a second gen with softer settings? How low was it?

By bouncy do you mean too firm and your butt bounces in the seat? Or by bouncy do you mean floaty?

I hate the word bouncy.

the way i dont understand about coilovers is that when i want my car lower, i lower the rings and the springs kinda stretch out. whereas if i want it higher, i raise the rings up and compress the springs. the way it seems is that if i compress the springs to raise it, it would give it less room to compress and create a stiffer ride. but it's actually the other way around, why?

and i love my SS

sorry for posting it in the wrong section. But my shocks and springs are starting to go out. So I was considering on purchasing aftermarket coilovers, but I want a soft suspension. So I'm taking that the only way is to put back OE struts and springs.

If you raise it enough then it will feel stiffer. If you are working the range that Tein put in the instructions you are going to feel practically no difference in ride with height changes. But if you make it higher and higher the spring will compress enough to where you will feel it. The you know you adjust it too high. The ride does not get stiffer when you lower the car either. What happens when you are too low is that the car bottoms out more and when that happens the springs and shocks are effectively useless. This makes the ride terrible, but it is not because it is stiffer.

doesn't go low enough..

but if u want the closest to OE ride, then go with it! it's perfect for the people that don't want that harsh of a ride.

thanks. So even at the softest settings of the Teins SS is no where near soft compared to OE. I wish they made the CS version for the 2nd gen TL's

Go with KSports, those are soft... Compared to riding with solid steel tubes in place of the shocks, that is.

Hmm..never heard of Ksport. How do they ride like? Are they softer or equivalent as soft as the OE suspension setup?

There's a reason for the white text in my post. KSports are not soft at all, however they handle great, something with a stiffer RSB would help out even more. I would not really recommend KSports to you, you would be thoroughly unsatisfied if you're looking for a stock ride.

Alright, thanks guys for the opinion. Coming from stock struts+Teins Luxury Master springs -> to Stock suspension. Back to raising the car like a monster truck lol.

Mine are set down and no bounciness at all. Matter of fact, theres no better feeling than taking a turn at 100+ and feeling my car slope down into the curve and suck into the intensity of the curve. Sweet

Do you really turn your car at 100mph? lol. How many miles have you guys put on the Tein coilovers. The only thing I reallly despise is the height of regular struts+springs. God its like a monster truck..I like the lower car look..but I didn't want to sacrafice the luxury. . Guess you can't have both lol.

Get the Tein SS coilover, it is very similar to stock, but all depends on how low you drop the car. The more you drop, the stiffer it gets, but the drive is great. K-sport is little stiffer than Tein SS. I like my Tein SS which I'm now slam all the way down on the SS. Have total around 60k miles or so with the coilover and still good.

You can have both. The TEIN SS allw you to lower the car and still maintain ride comfort while improving handling. If you slam them the ride will get a little rougher. K Sports will allow you to go the lowest and are a little less expensive but they are track inspired and they are firm.

i was thinking about getting Tien SS springs too. i dont want to drop mine to much because where i live at there are hella speed bumps and potholes. When i had my civic i had to go almost completly sideways to get over a speed bump, but yet i had ground control springs though

these aren't springs; they're coilovers.
and you can drop these where ever you want to.
