Need tire suggestions.

Ok I got a 03 TL-S. Curent tire size is 225/40 ZR18 92W. I'm needing some tires with alot of grip and that are good in rain. Budget isn't really to much of a deal so any suggestion is cool.

Any ideas?

do you have a seperate set of snow tires? OK does get snow iirc

the super grippy and do excellent in rain are rated as Summer tires
and the rubber compound doesnt like temps below 32f
It will get thru minor snow, but not intended to be driven on snow and ice regularly

the standard tire rating is M&S mud and snow,,you can get some pretty grippy tires in that rating with decent rain performance

Oddly- summer is better in rain, have extensive grooving made to move water out
its all about that grooving in how tire performs wet/dry corners
the suggestions on here are all personal choice
Most tires carry an A braking rating- thats wet brake test
AA is the super summer tires rating
see www.tirerack.com as a place to learn about many tires that fit your car
and click a review with a TL icon- for results by just TL user reviews of all tires for our car
Also ck www.americastire.com

I was happy with the General UHP, but low front tire life on lowered car 25kmiles I dont rotate- that wears out 4 tires at once! I would replace with the same ones but was offered a choice
note I run 18s on an 01

now have Barum tires from americas tire/discount tire at the suggestion of the clerk-
we had both tires side by side comparing features,,and both are offshoots of the same major name company
a year ago,,~$150 each, mounted, lifetime balance on the hunter roadforce machine, ca tax, disposal and other fees,,not bad when you look at the choices with tire only starting at 150++

Those are both summer tires for my use in Ca, where it doesnt go to the snow
and I enjoy testing the cornering and braking of my baby

goodyear F1 are rightous tires if your budget allows, have summer and winter versions

use tirerack as a source of info based on excellent real world testing at their track, plus thousands of buyer reviews

compare total $ of order, plus you still have to get them installed,,vs americas tire drive in and drive out special- they will meet or beat any price too!! even online prices you bring in a printout- they beat- they want your tire biz!!
even ford dealers are doing tire deals now, will beat any price
worth looking at their selection

^^ I do have a set of backup tires with about 60% tread left. Here in OK it really doesnt get bad with snow until January usually and normally rains alot in Oct Nov Dec. I really need the grip for how I drive (i dont drive like an a-hole) But when i get the oppurtunity i like to jump on it sometimes. There is also this one road I take daily with 3 sharp turns.

If budget isn't an issue go for the Michelin Pilot Sports. Great summer tire, good traction in wet/dry, soft and quiet. You can pick up a set at Costco and have them installed while you get a Chicken Bake at the food stand.

Cons: They don't last very long, probably 25k miles at best.

Remember summer tires really shouldnt be driven in at or near freezing temps. I can notice a BIG difference in ride and traction this time of year when its in the upper 30s low 40s. It isnt until around 50 that they start to become "normal"

^^^^^

Agree. Summer tires' rubber compound will begin to harden up at around 6 degreeC. The colder the temperature, the lesser the traction for the hardened summer compound.

Summer tires will become unusable near freezing temps, and have ZERO traction on snow and ice.
