Need advice on installing Tein Basics

Hey guys,

I'm going to order some Tein Basics and wanted some advice from those who have installed them themselves for the 99.

Does anyone have any helpful hints for installing them? What special tools (if any) are required? I noticed in the DYI for the Springs/Shocks install that you had to use an extra jack to push up on the rotor assembly to line up the yolk (I think) with the bottom of the shock to install it - can some elaborate on this?

Thanks...

installing the tiens is like installing any shock or spring change. you use an extra jack to push the rotor up so the york will fit up to the bottom of the shock. without a jack, you will have a tough time pushing the rotor up while tighten.

if you have airtools it will go much much faster and save wear and tear on your wrists from the spring compressor. an extra set of hands is nice, but not really necessary.

it's honestly not that tough. do a search under my name and you should be able to find some photos i posted of disassembly, reassembly of the shock towers. it took me about 7-8 hours completely not knowing what i was doing with only hand tools. i bet i could do it again in 4 now, with handtools. maybe a wee bit less with airtools.

oh and on a side note, from my personal experience the honda swaybar links strip easy and i find them tough to put back on (having done 2 different tl spring replacements this seemed to be an issue with all 8 links). if they're not tight you will hear rattling going over bumps. i would say either take this opportunity to replace them with new honda or moog links or just unbolt the brackets that hold them to the wheel assembly and don't actually unbolt the link itself. make sense?

Thanks for the info guys.

Why would I need a spring compressor if I'm installing coilovers, I thought the compressor was used for removing the shock from the spring when installing both shocks and springs separately.

SatinSilverTypes: I'm not sure I follow you regarding the 8 sway bar links, any chance you could provide some pics /w explanation?

thx

because the basics don't come with top hats or pillow ball mounts, so you need to remove them from your stock assembly. you are correct if your coilovers came with pillow ball mounts, if not you'll need the compressor most likely.
