looking to replace the Kuhmos

whats a good a/s tire? ive heard good things about Falkens and Bridgestone Potenzas. also, is there any benefit for going direction vs non-directional? besides the ease of rotation is there any perfomance/corning gains? thanks in advance, Bryan

i have falken 512's. they are pretty good for the price. just hoping they last for a while. directional tires are better in the rain.

Directional tires are going to give you a handling upgrade slightly, depending on the rubber compound and tread design. However, when you cross over to the directional tires that is when you get into the Performance/Ultra High Performance area and be careful! The higher the performance gains; for example, handling, and traction and water evacuation the lower the life/tread life of the tires usually.

So you need to ask yourself if you want a longer lasting tire that doesn't handle amazing, or do you want some performance out of your tires?

What IS the type of driving you plan on doing with these tires? That will give us a better idea of what tire will suit your needs.

BTW, I would probably go with Falken rather than the Potenzas.... I have heard more good from the Falken, they usually grip and perform pretty good from what I have heard. I personally TRY (depends on the price usually) to run Toyo's (good compromise of handling and performance) or Yokohama (this one is expensive though.)

I hope this helps!

^thank you sir! uhmm, im just looking for a good daliy driver tire..ive heard nothing but good things for the falkens, so might look into those. my kumos are showing signs of wear after 23000 miles when the shop said the would last 40000, so some of the driving was brisk, but 90 percent of the time i only go 30 miles from where i live

For decent overall performance you should probably go with the Toyo Proxes 4, for better performance (sticker tires) you should go with the Toyo TR-1, however that Toyo TR-1 will only last 30,000-40,000 max. The Proxes 4 is usually rated 40,000 starting and can go all the way up to 50,000-60,000 mileage ratings, depending on the speed rating and size.

A lot of people use the Proxes 4 including the 3rd Gen TL's too!

The question is what type of tire are you looking for? All season? Summer tire? Performance?

The hankook S1 evo is a great tire.

Go to the tire rack and compare tires and read up

i think the falken 912s are replacing the 512s. The 912s are less performance driven I believe.

My 512's ran around $500 total at discount tire. I just hope they last atleast 35-40,000 miles.

Check tirerack.com. Most places like discount tire price match.

Introducing Falken's newest and most technically advanced all-season performance tire! Designed to replace and outperform, its predecessor (ZE-512). The ZE-912 improves upon the ZE-512's already great qualities to make an even better performing and riding tire

I just ordered 4 stock size Falken 512's with road hazard warranty and new valve stems for $339 shipped. Check out vulcantire.com they are a little cheaper than discount tire by about $19 bucks for my order.

Pirelli PZero Nero M+S are awesome tires! I've had them for 20k, and they work well here in rainy Oregon. $152 each in your 235/40-18 size from Tire Rack.

Falken Ziex ZE-912 would be my vote. Got them in Feb for about 350 installed, no complaints. I got a price quote online and the place I went to matched it and lowered it by 5 bucks a tire.

Falken Ziex ZE-912 I have a set of these. The first thing you'll notice is the sound (or lack of it) these tires are super quiet. Performance is on par for the price range. They have decent treadwear, really depends on how your drive your car and if your going to Auto-X the tires.

Im rolling on Falken Azenis ST115, I bought them off discounttire's ebay site. Ive bought a few tires from these guys and you end up saving on average about $20 per tire. I bought a set of 4 online and brought them to the store to install, and saved about almost 80 bucks then if I were to buy it at the store.

I had Kumhos and I like my falken's better. Better grip and a lot quieter. I'm running a 40 series tire. I just recently lowered my car I dont know how it wears just yet. good luck on your find.
