well, they may be "winter ready" or whatever smoke they blew up your ass lol, but the sand and hard salt particles that get thrown around will chip your wheels...especially at higher speeds, the front wheels will throw all that stuff on the roads right onto the rear wheels. salt spray also finds its way in the lug nut areas and all of that. also, the 19" tire sidewall and top of tread is so stiff, that it cannot flex on ice and snow making traction very difficult. that is why snow tires are so flexible. I still highly recommend that you think twice about rollin your stocks in the winter. I know it doesn't look as nice, but there will be a time that you wished you swapped them out. I lived in Colorado for many years and learned hard lessons trying to keep my nice wheels on instead of taking 20 minutes to swap for stocks. now that I am in atlanta, I can get away with keeping my wheels on all year, but after seeing the snow you got up in the Chi this year, my is to swap. can I get an amen from the northerners? good luck either way man!!

painted stockies getting chipped is much easier to stomach than a set of $1300 wheels.. and you cant just hit the HFPs with a rattle can to touch em up..lol

If at all possible man, keep your stockies. I live a lot further south than you and they salt the ever living shit out of roads around here in the winter, the pot holes get huge from the plow blades and chemicals they spray..uggh it makes my stomach turn just thinking about messing up a nice wheel such as the HFP.

exactly...what about no traction on ice/snow and more potholes during the winter freeze/thaw of roads...just gonna take your chances huh? hardcore or hard headed? like I said, its your $1300 and its your choice but I know from personal experience that 19" non snow tires in a harsh winter climate is simply not a good idea whatsoever. just deal with the stockies for 4 months..Nov to Mar. look at it this way, you'll end up getting more tread life out of the 19s since they won't be on the car

You guys arnt getting it lol my stockies have tires on them that get absolutly no grip in light snow let alone any ice..so for me to run them in the winter would be stupid unless I get snow tires which I'm not doing I drove my friends cl with 19's and generals in the snow and its night and day over my falkens so I gotta sell em... There is no way ill get any damage if I clean them as often as I'm planning on so im not trippin... Potholes you just got to learn to deal with living out here there nothing I can do about those....

why don't you get new snow tires for the stockies. you can even get used ones since you're only going to be on them for the winter months. I think it's better to shell out the money for safety/peace of mind and you'll extend the life of the HFP tires by a lot.

I think what CJITTY and twistededge are getting at is the damage that is caused WHILE you're driving you can't control. Cleaning it often will only prevent the deterioration damage. But things like rocks/salt/dirt hitting it while you're driving, you can't control.

ok..handy summed it up pefectly..that is what I was trying to communicate.

the weight is right at 24 lbs for the HFP19 and stock 17 Type S wheels are right around 22-23 lbs I believe..so for a OEM 19" wheel, not really that bad. my old 19 chrome zenetti's weighed 30 lbs!!

well, depending on the chroming process, it can add as little as 1 lb per wheel...my chrome tls stockies only weighed about 1 lb more than a non chrome tl type s wheel. I certainly didn't notice any performance difference...with my 19 zenetti chromes on, I felt like I had four midgets hanging off my fenders that didn't start their nutri system programs

umm, these wheels with general tires ride just as good as 18's if you ask me...not nearly as bad as my old 19" zenetti's..i am very picky about ride comfort and I don't even swap these out on road trips anymore because it rides so damn nice..and these are not made in 18"..there are HFP 18's though..search ebay for plenty o deals.
