help rubbing!
i put 18" rims on my 03 acura tl-s the other day. the offset is +42 and they have 235/40-r18 tires on them(know its low but had the rims off another car + the kid in the shop told me they would fit). so all was good. except i drove with my friend in the backseat tonite n it seems teh rear tires rub wen i make left or right turns or hit a dip. im assuming from the shift in weight. i red somewhere that u can trim the fender tabs or sumthing like that. if some 1 can instruct me how to do that. with some pictures it would be great. i already searched n came up with trimming the tabs but no good instructions. thanks in advance
Since mine are already cut, I can't take pictures of them... but look in the wheel well, and where the bumper meets the fender, you will see a little tab attached to the bumper. Cut that with a knife. Depending on the severity of the rub, you might have to cut along the bumper about half way down.
Yes you can roll your fenders. For you, just cutting the tabs or whatever is not gona cut it for your type of rub. Just call some shops, either tire/rim shops, performance shops etc and ask if they have rolled fenders before or if they do roll fenders. You just gotta find out who does it. The place that i had my suspension done at specializes in chasi and suspension work. They mounted and balanced my rims&tires and installed my Coilovers. When they set the height, they saw that it rubbed a little, so they took a dremel and shaved away at the innder side of the fenders lip or that tab that pure adren was talking about and it fixed that slight problem. They then asked me if i wanted them to roll the fenders, but i wasnt sure if i wanted to yet or not. I mean, this is when i hadnt even driven the car yet. So i said id wait on it. Well, truth is, i do get rubbing from the back tires when im riding with a full car of 4 but its only when the turn is a little more harder to either side, thats when i get a quick little sound of a rub real quick. Other then that, when im riding just me and a passenger, no rubbing unless im really trying to roll that bitch lmao. Also my front tires rub if i hit a sudden good sized dip in the road but thats normal cuz of my car being droped as low as it is. I suggest you roll the fenders. I still kinda wana do mine but im lazy to go take it etc.
i think if you just changed tires you would be alright. 235's are pretty wide. a set smaller width tires will probably fix it.
but try cutting tabs first.
btw there is away to roll fenders your self with a baseball bat, but i have heard mixed reviews on that.

buy rims with the right offset. i had/have 18x7.5 w/ +42 and i cut the tabs and it always rubbed. my car is slammed as well but i did the right thing this spring and bought 18x7.5 w/ +48 and it should greatly improve this.
i also run 225/40's

I dont think the offset on those rims is 42mm. They stick out too much. Mine are 48 with lowered springs and it doesnt rub at all. There is at least 2" to the fender all around. Someone made a mistake quoting the offset and you should take those rims back for the correct size. With the correct offset you shouldnt have to roll fenders unless you are lowering the car more than 2" or running 19" wheels.
