H&R OE Sport 51858-55 problems?

I have a 03 Type S and wanted a small drop such as with the H&R OE sport 51858-55. H&R does not list this for 02-03 TL, but I see that a lot of members are using them on their 02-03 TL's. I wanted to know if anyone has had any problems, such as sagging or an uneven drop? Thanx

Thanx. I wanted to do the Tokico blues with the springs, but I'm going with the sways for now. I'll eventually replace the shocks/struts.

99-03 springs are the same the 51858 were taken from the 99 accord onto the tl but you get the saggy ass drop then they pull out the 50103 to fix it, i got the 50103.

It's actually a bit complicated.

At first, there was 51858 and 51858-55. 51858 was the Sport kit, and the 51858-55 was the OE Sport kit. The Sport gave a more aggressive drop with slightly stiffer spring rates than the OE Sport kit.

However, with the 51858 Sport kit, a problem surfaced on the TL/TL-S. Because the springs were designed for Accord duty, they started sagging in the rear due to the extra weight of the TL. This was especially more severe if you had a stereo system in the trunk.

So what H&R did was come out with the 50103 kit. This would replace the 51858 Sport kit. But what they did at first was keep the front springs of the 51858 Sport kit, but replace the rear springs with the 51858-55 OE Sport springs. So 50103 was just a hybrid kit. I got one of the very first of these kits, and the springs were indeed of different colors (blue/black for Sport, grey for OE Sport) from front to back, and the rear springs were clearly marked 51858-55.

This turned out to be a temporary fix until they could get into their product production cycle, because after a while, H&R's Sport kit came with same color springs, kit marked 50103.

So bottom line is that if you have 51858, then you have the old Sport kit. If you have the 51858-55, then you have the OE Sport kit. If you have 50103 with different color springs, then you have a hybrid kit. If you have 50103 with the same color springs, then you have the actual 50103 kit. All will work on our cars, but now you know what to expect of each.

I have the 51858's and a huge box in the trunk and have very minor sagging. I have 2 finger clearance in the front and just a little less in the back.

This should be a sticky. Good info. Someone should put this in the FAQ section.

My TL-S has the 51858 kit (per the previous owner), and the rear is sagging. There's a 2-finger gap in the front, and a 1-finger in the rear. I have the stock sound system, and the trunk is empty. From what I'm reading, the gap with the 50103 kit should give a consistent gap, front and back wheel wells, is that right?

Does anyone know if just the rear (50103) springs are available for sale? Or if H&R has a lifetime warranty for their springs? I looked at their website and didn't see anything regarding such a warranty.

Anyone know if H&R has a warranty (or acknowledged the problem) for their 51858 rear springs?

I just called H&R's Technical Support, who tells me I'm out of luck because I'm not the original purchaser of the springs. He said that 51848 kit was specifically for the 99-01 TL, and the 50103 was only for 02-03 TL. He also said that I could not buy the rear pair of springs from the 50103 kit separately. The 50103 should give a 1.75" drop front and a 1.5" drop rear.

So, in order to have a consistent gap on all the wheel wells, I need to buy the whole 50103 and use just the rears. Anyone have any ideas on an alternate? Does Eibach, Comptech, or Tein (or anyone else) just offer the rear springs?

So if you are the original purchaser of the springs and you have 51858 H&R sports on your 2002-2003 TL, you can call and get it replaced?

That's what I was trying to do, but got stopped when told the warranty applied only to the original purchaser. Give them a call at (888) 827-8881 and ask them.
