bad idea, just get lowering springs and struts and call it a day.

DO NOT cut springs. It is not a safe practice.
Wait until you can afford engineered springs of a lower riding height than cutting springs. That might be what others may do on other vehicles ... but that does not mean that's OK to do for any vehicle.
