another coil over thread

hey ive searched this site for a while now (as a lurker ofcourse) but i still had some questions. im looking into buying an 03 tl but my goal was to have it slammed to the point that it looks bagged but in my research i guess it ends up between ksports, megans, or funtion and form? but does anyone know how much of a drop each allow? or even flat out which one slams the most. ive had ksports on my s2000 and i know they go low but even for the s2000 megans still go lower and i have never heard of function and form but any help would be appreciated thanks in advance guys btw heres the pics of the car im looking into definetely not low enough, has teins already (taken straight from the craigslist posting)

Well I dont know that much about coilovers, but if the car your buying already has tein's you could look into ordering shorter springs for them. That could save you the headache of selling the old coilovers and buying new ones.

If that is the car that you are buying I say leave it.

If you want to go lower either get shorter springs or sell those and get F&F1s.

shorter springs on teins is fail imo...

look through my pictures on my album, you should see a bunch.. i had about 2.75" - 3" of thread left to lower...
the functions forms if installed straight out of the box, which is like.. 1" of thread left, it leaves your frame on the ground..

yeah the shock proably did not have anymore compression travel to go lower (bottomed out basically)

hey jjashaa since you seem to be the guy to go to for offset/drop questions what issues can i expect to come across when you slam out your car for example on s2000 interesting enough my exhaust has never scraped anything no matter how low i drove it but the jack points on the sides of the car used to scrape like nuts. so for a tl what scrapes and what can be done to fix that problem

same problem as your s2k

my jack points are fold up.. lol

however, my exhaust got a few scrappage on driveways and some bumps..

the cans got a tad dented in as well..

here's how it looks.

little bits of my piping saw some action as well.

frame is scratched up.. downpipe got a little bit of action too.... other than that.. it was nice.. =]

looks painful... cant wait haha i gotta see if i can get a hold of stock or atleast stock style exhaust normally the stock exhaust offers more clearance (tends to be smaller) and doesnt hurt as much when you drag the entire exhaust on a speed bump

So you picked up the TL? Any other larger pics? It looks pretty good from those pics (19s I'm guessing). Try removing one of the locking collars in the meantime

Wow, that's the lowest it'll go on Teins? I'm pretty impressed! If I knew I could go that low and still raise it for winter weather I woulda grabbed Teins instead. That's like the heighest I go w/ my F2s lol

Are those 40 series tires? Too bad weren't local I would've traded you suspension!

oh the tires are 225/35 haaha i have a set of 245/40 tires but they look huge haha.
but if thats the highest fnf2 go then i must have them i need to rip off my oil pan.... lol the only thing is does anyone know the spring ratings of fnf1/fnf2/teins? teins are normally something like 6kg/8kg but i would prefer tein like ride dont need to stiff for this car trying to go all for comfort and do fnf1 and fnf 2 offer same height adjustments with only differrence being that fnf2 is just adjustible dampening?

I was quoted the same spring rates from weaksauce 6k/8k, I have no problems with ride quality (some people are too picky w/ slammed ride quality IMO..)

Heigh adjustments would be the same and yes, the only diff is the dampening. As stated before Type 1 = Basic , Type 2 = Super Street.

I think I'm gonna try to trade up my F2s now lol..good luck to you too mang!

Your most likely rubbing on the 12 o'clock position on your rear quarter panel and/or your bumper tabs on the rear bumper. If you look in these areas, I'm almost guaranteed its one of these two spots that your rubbing.

How to fix it? Roll your fenders and cut the bumper tabs.

, i can put new shocks (front and rear) in a car (with changing over the springs too) in like 2-3 hours if i take my time , but that is with air tools and a lift though

also what size rim, cause they seem like 19's (maybe 18's), cause the overall tire size just seems bigger then stock, which would definetly not help the rubbing

never mind , i looked at the overall size's and they (the 18's) are actually smaller then stock , and 19's are basically still the same diameter as stock (i did see that you got 18's in your garage), only thing is it a tad bit wider then stock, but not that much

oh let me did i say "fail on that part" i mean fail on my part i took off one side of the suspension put the new one back on and then tried to take off the other side not realizing that since the f2s are shorter than teins and im guessing hte sway bar or something it pulls the other side up as well so i couldnt get the teins off it was being like forced upward haha so guys if you guys do coilovers please do fronts then rears not corner by corner

btw guys im kinda sad that i dont get to drive it super slammed out but maybe i should get 19s so itll look slammed out haha of buy even smaller tires haha

i also do it for a living though, so i have done it many times, so i would expect me to be faster, and i was just playing around, cause i know whenever i do something for the first time it takes me longer to do, so don't feel bad, and also like i said before i got air tools and a lift which helps speed things up ALOT

and yes do one end of the first, then the other end, compared to doing side to side (you do have a sway bar that does load up the suspension afterall, when one side is lowered onto the ground)

and i would say 6 hours is actually not too bad of a time for doing it your first time (and it does not sound like you got any help ethier), with hand tools and potentaliy rusted in bolts, so be PROUD that you did it yourself

and smaller tires i would say be a no go, cause i personally like wheelwells to actually be full of tire (but not too full though), and not just air
