215/40-18 tire size

I currently have 225/45-18 with a 18x7.5 45 offset wheel and planning on lowering with Tein H-tech or HR Sport as soon as I resolved my rubbing issues. Since I am rubbing with my current set-up, would it be advisable to go with 215/40/18 tires instead of 225/40/18? I will try to return my current tires tomorrow and insist that they gave me a wrong wheel-tire set up because I am rubbing even with my current stock suspension.

Thats an odd tire size, probably very expensive if you could find it and I dont think 5mm on each side is going to make much of a difference. Your best bet is to get the correct offset and rim width. I run 225/40-18 on a lowered suspension and I have at least 3" clearance to the tabs. You should get a rim between 42-48mm offset on a 7" wide rim. The wider the rim the smaller the offset so you dont rub against the fenderwell so if you need to run a 7.5 keep the offset to no more than 42mm

Hope the pictures works this time.

They are Rial Como, and still not sure if they are now available. Any other suggestions?

I wonder why they sold you 225/45/18. I know some people prefer a little more sidewall to help with ride comfort. You moving to 215/40/18 (which is a weird size) ... you will feel a lot more of the road. With 215/40/18 ... you're 2.8% smaller than OEM circumference (that's the close to the outer limit of 'spec' for the ABS brakes). 225/40/18 would be better but if you're rubbing so much ... the thinner tire (215) will less likely rub.

Personally, I'd go no more narrow than 225/40/18 (I am lowered on H.tech springs + Koni Yellows + 235/40/18 tires and occasionally rub, but I haven't cut tabs or rolled fenders) but it's up to you. If you're not a gambling man, then thinner tires will less likely rub if you're dropped.

actually you guys are wrong, i'm finding more 215/40 18s cheaper than im finding 215/45 18s, its not that weird of a size, they have Nankang NS IIs for 384 shipped on ebay for the 215/40s brand new. thats the tire size im going with to avoid any possibility of rubbing with my drop. Ideally id go with the 225s because itll bring my total diameter closer to stock, but even with the 215/40 18s, its only off by around half an inch.

Do you absolutely need TPMS for the winters to work? I know in other cars if you don't have TPMS, you just have a warning sign light up on the dash for the entire winter but that won't interfere with the driving.
