Wobbling @ 30-40 MPH

My car wobble's @ 30-40 MPH. It's coming from the rear. I put my Alloys on for the winter and it started to wobble aprox. 35MPH. On my 18" s it wobbled @ about 50MPH. I balanced my tires (only 1/2 ounce off) rims tires are fine. I put my car on a rack looked around and everything seems to be fine. Only thing I can think of is the coils that sits on the strut. I can move around the coil, but it wont slide up or down. Does anyone have the same problem? Do I need to replace O rings?

There shouldnt be any movement in the coil Maybe with a lowering spring and the car with a tire lifted could you move the coil a little, but not with weight on it

when I exelerate the car has a shake to it. You feel it more on your lower back/ass. I checked all bolts everything is tight. Do you think the rear is out of line? Or the camber, poss. the shocks blew? I don't know what to do. This is really getting under my skin.

Interesting. The exact same problem started with me this week.

In the middle of a trip, the car shudders side to side under acceleration between 45-60mph. There is a slight vibration when coasting, but when you touch the gas pedal the car goes nuts.

I've read a few threads on here that people said to rotate the tires to see if it's a balance issue, check motor mounts, and check the control arm.

This is a bit extreme for a simple tire balance. How many miles do these cars have?

102k.

It's not tire pressure.

Check your motor mounts. I just looked and the rubber on my right mount is cracked and broken.

i have the same problem. I have balanced the tires, replaced ball joint, even with my winter tires on does the same thing. It vibration gets a bit more pronounced when going uphill.
my car will have the timing belt replaced tomorrow, i will ask them to take a look at the motor mounts.
very weird, the vibration only happens when I got my foot on the accelerator and when i am going 80 km/h.

Well what made me ask it is because you state you feel it while accelerating. That usually has to do with a load transfer or power delivery and typically would be transfered thru something in the front.

my car is at Acura right now, they just called me and some things they inpected (before the timing belt):
- motor mounts are good, no signs of wear.
- lower ball joints at front are showing signs of wear.. $ 357
- rear staybalizer bar showing wear. $ 227

Anyways, there you go so now... i asked the Acura technitian and he said that none of these items would cause the car to vibrate only at 80 km/hr ahhhrhrhrrrrrrr!!!!!.

I couldn't find where the wobbling/shaking is coming from. It's @ a shop right now getting checked out. Got a call Before they closed, they thought it was the tires. I told them It couldn't be b/c the car did the crazy shaking @ 40 MPH with 2 different sets of tires which were both balanced. I told them it's got to be something else thats deals with the suspension other than the tires or rims. I will get a call tomm. to see what exactly the problem would be. Hopefully not $$$$$$!

A friend of mine had this exact problem on his 02TLP. It turned out to be an axle bearing (or so thats what he told me). It wasnt too expensive to fix, I believe around $150.

A rear sway bar is a home replace job, The ball joints are an important part of the steering and would cause a lot of problems when everything they attach to is now allowed to move!

I am still trying to figure out why everyone thinks the dealer is God in all matters of Acura repair. If you had ever worked at one (shaking head in disgrace at former self)

Consult your regular ma bell paper phone book in the yellow pages and find automobile repairing and service. There should be at least one independant shop specializing in Acura, and many of the techs there used to be dealer guys and got sick of the games played there. It is a world unknown to the consumer.

alright guys, I just got off the phone with the shop and they have no idea what the problem is. For granted they're not Acura Specialist's, but how can a shop thats been in business for 35 years not know!!! They told me they're not a 100 % sure, but there could be something wrong with the axle. Good thing about this, is that their not charging me anything. I'm going to find a shop that specialize's in Acura's and have them look at it. Will keep ya'll posted on outcome! CLN AC

I just got off the phone with this shop that specializes in Acura's and was told to bring it in to get checked and no cost!!! I mentioned the axle bearing and the guy said he doesn't think so b/c you would hear it. I'm picking up my baby from one shop and dropping it off @ another, how depressing!! Hopefully these guys will know exactly whats wrong! keep ya'll posted! CLN AC

Ok, after four hours of wasted time, nobody knows what the problem is. The Acura dealership said it was my wheels. The wheel/tire place said the wheels were fine. I agree that the wheels aer fine, because the vibration/wobbling only occurs under acceleration.

The shop called me today and told me that the reason why the car was having heavy vibrations was b/c I needed hub rings. I'm confused, b/c it did it w/ my stock rims. Their standing by that after telling them that I had the same vibrations w/ stock rims. Now, I'm ordering a set of hub rings ($40 + $37 =$77overnight shipping) and hoping thats the problem. CLN AC

now I'm afraid that hub rings are not going to cure the problem! I don't know if they 're plastic or metal.

i really doubt that is the problem, i have two set of rim/tires and my car shakes the same, i have even tried rotating the tires.... same.
To me, the axle bearing like someone mentioned could be the problem. How do we test if the axle bearing is ok or not?
I believe if infact was the tires, then the car would shake at that specific speed at all scenarios (when putting foot on gas, brake or coasting). But it only happens when we press the gas so, an axle bearing sounds like a logical choice because it is put on more stress when we press the gas.???? can anyone confirm this???

I mentioned to the first shop I had my car and they said that it wasn't the axle bearing b/c you would be able to hear it.

I tried this tonight...

My wobbling is worst at 50mph. I was on a long stretch of straight, flat road so whenever I gave it enough gas to keep speed, it would shake; let go and it would go away. While pressing the accelerator, I shifted to neutral and the shake went away, even with the engine revving.

Does it still sound like an engine mount issue (since I didn't change mine yet)?

Do you have aftermarket or stock wheels? I'm going to put my stock rims on in the next couple of days to find out if the aftermarket wheels are the culprit.

good idea on that test swampgas, I am going to try that tomorrow to see if mine does the same thing.
SSMTL01, i have two sets of rims and tires and they both shake at the same speed. I have also swapped them front to back both sets, same result.

Also, when i went for my oil change i asked the shop guys to try this: They raised my car (all wheels not touching the floor) and asked them to accelerate. they told me that the car began to shake at 40 km/hr (not at 60 km/hr but still!!! it shaked with wheels up)

Stock everything and other than taking the intake resonator out and putting on different rotors/pads, no mods.

See, I'd put the front on jackstands and try that but my recent luck would mean the e-brake would fail, the wedges by the tires would mysteriously get pushed out of the way, I'd tip off the jacks and damage something expensive just prior to crashing into a brick wall.

Just passed 100k.

Haven't had a chance yet...sick last week and work has me busy this week. I might just take it to a shop and have them do it since I already bought the mounts.
