Wind deflector on 2002 TL-S ????
I just had my car serviced at 30K by my dealer. When I starting driving it I noticed a rattle coming from the moonroof; sort of a tickertape sound.
I noticed that the wind deflector (that spring loaded panel that pops up when you open the moonroof) was missing. Now, the dealer is insisting the 2002 TL-S NEVER HAD a deflector and are attributing the noise to something else.
I know I had this pop-up panel, yet I feel like I'm going nuts, cause they're telling me there's no place to even attach a deflector.
I bought my car in 2001 - before it was available - could it have been in an early production run; then pulled or am I truly going nuts?
Does anyone have any insight into this issue? PLEASE.
Thanks
Jeff

Jeff,
My 89 Legend had one, my 96 Maxima has one, but the wife's 02 TL-S doesn't have one. It looks like there would be room for the mechanism, but nothing but a large channel is there.
I don't know what is done at 30k miles but perhaps they lubed the moonroof track. I can't imagine anything like lubing it would describe the sound, though.
I kinda have to go the sound is coming from somewhere else. I'd suggest the antenna but the TL doesn't have one.
I did notice recently that some of the window trim at the roof line had come loose. Maybe that has happened up by the moonroof and is making the sound.

Thanks for the quick, helpful reply - now I know I'm going nuts!
The dealer thought it was the sun visor and have ordered a new one. But, what's really odd is that I recalled seeing it there. I know squat about cars - I didn't even know what that thing was until yesterday, when the dealer told me what it was called!
Oh well, maybe dementia is setting in early.
