Question Wheel bearing grease color?

After dishing out 40 bucks to have a pep boys press out, and in, a new wheel bearing--my noise problem was still there. So I compare the new driver side bearing to the passy side bearing and there's a huge difference in noise and smoothness. I guess it's a simple deduction that the passy side bearing is the culprit.

Anyhow, I went at it myself using some tools rented from autozone. The wheel bearing grease colors are different. the outboard half of the bearing has reddish, maybe overheated, grease while the inboard half had fairly clean looking grey/translucent brown color.

Since I didn't press out the first bearing and didn't ask for the old one, I don't know if this is normal or not. Anyone know if that's a sign of overheat/failure on the bearing? TIA

You should replace it anyway, chances are it has the same amt. of wear as the old one you had replaced already.

if you have cupped tires it will make a wheel bearing noise. also the wheel bearings on our cars and all hondas are not serviceable so oem and aftermarket may have different color grease but whatever you should be using oem anyhow

^ Eh, can't go wrong with 3 yr warranty, plus I can change them in 45 minutes or less now.

Anyhow, I just changed it out and i'm noise free. Thanks though!
