I have a 03 TL-s w/ 70k miles and have this annoying CEL problem. In the morning or when the car has been sitting for more than 5 hrs. sometimes after turning on the car, both vsa lights & CEL would come on. All the codes point to random misfire and misfiring in all the cylinders. Dealer wants $550 to clean egr valve & adjust valves. I tried to get a second opinion but wen I took it to another shop the CEL came off and no codes came up! Last night after work The same CEL/VSA thing happened but today after work the CEL came off! In case I had to clean the egr or change a coil pack isn't it warrantied? My friend said it could be a bad cat or 02 sensor but I thought there's specific codes for that!

 

None of that stuff is warrantied any more on the original factory warranty due to you having 70k. Now if you have a extended warranty then some of it will.

There is a DIY on cleaning the EGR yourself. If you are getting a random missfire its possible you have a bad coil pack. What has worked for many is buying just one coilpack and replacing just one at a time untill they find which one is causing it. Also it may help if you change the plugs out now to new ones.
