what's the difference
what's the difference
what's the difference between a rebuild transmission and a transmission swap from another car?
When they tell me "we will put a new transmission" do they mean a brand new one or a used one from another car?
I need a transmission that will last me for years to come without giving me problems

a trouble free trans--get a regular honda
there are NO `brand new` TL trans to be had
all are either used- sold as removed from other car- probably in a bad accident
or rebuilt in your current case with some new and some of your own used but still good parts- like gears
or if you get one from acura its a `new design case` which may have been in and out of a car already~ and rebuilt internal mix of new and old parts
post 2005 cases are the `improved design`
there are many ziners using a different cars trans- from an oddessy- with good results

HotBox...,
Getting another transmission from another vehicle has too many uncertainties, mainly how many miles, whether it was abused, etc. This point applies even if the trans was rebuilt.
If your trans is giving you trouble, rather than getting a replacement, it is better to have your current transmission rebuilt by a shop.At least you know the history of your vehicle.
By the way, what year is your TL?

is a 2000 TL with 111k Mileage, how durable will the transmission be if I have it rebuilt by a shop? I would like to finish all transmission problems once and for all I have also been looking into a 6 speed swap I don't think I'll have any problems if I get a manual transmission do you guys agree?
all depends on how well the tech set everything up
like most jobs, there is within spec range and set perfect based on experience
rebuild- you can use kevlar clutches which should solve that prob
m/t may have synchro issues and wear out its own clutch~

kevlar clutch plates seem to be the way to go to maintain some lifespan and quality hookup
Also if you are going to rebuild an existing unit- get one with a `post 2005 case`
where the `oil jet kit` has been moved internal of the trans
It has better cooling passages-better oil flow thru trans
while not perfect, its a big step forward

see the thread on that subject,,top of the gen2 general post section
fsttyms has detailed the cost and options as they improved recently
Its the ecu and some harness needed too- not just the trans
get the whole type CL-S engine too

I know nothing about the swap beyond whats here on azine,,Im not running that setup
see fsttyms1 or phee for actual experience and cost
iirc you can install the oddy trans onto the TL engine,
thats got to be easier and cheaper than the extra mods to install an m/t where an auto was!
(making hole for clutch pedal ecu etc)
