Hey guys does it matter what brand water pump you get? I seen one at advanced auto parts for $30-40. Suggestions?

Ya normally get what ya pay for.

IMO, if ya do your own work....buy the best part that ya can afford.

By the way, this is a rather labor intensive job that is normally performed as a preventative measure at the time of replacing the T-belt.
Big job, so don't skimp on the quality of the parts used within this area.

I found a mechanic that is going to do my timing belt and water pump. So you think I should look for a better brand?

First off, make sure that ya have a mechanic familiar with Honda products. Then buy the complete T-belt kit. They're available from our site's sponsor vendors for about $300 with the OEM parts.....or check out Rockauto.com for comparing prices on aftermarket kits such as Gates. Don't go cheap on questionable brands !

For critical hard to reach parts like that...oem is the only way to go. You can get the whole oem Aisin timing belt kit (5 parts) with water pump for $220 on the bay.

It's called Gates brand TCKWP kit. Contains everything you need. The bonus is that every component in this kit is the exact same brand part as OEM/Acura, with the exception of the Water pump (Gates brand instead of Yamada). Yes it has Koyo rollers, Aisin hydraulic tensioner and Gates/Unitta timing belt just like the Honda box version of these same parts. Yes, Gates makes most of the timing belts for Honda. Especially the ones for their high-reving 4cyls.

For all 00-03 TL's with 3.2L TCKWP286 . $136.00 @ RockAuto.com
