why use all jdm parts on our cars? couldn't they just get the same ones around here? it's not like any1 will be looking inside your transmission... having tranny parts shipped from japan doesn't sound cheap... idk just my thoughts.

canada may refer to parts from acura as JDM

a good shop will have customers with a gen2 or gen3 TL or CL (same trans) that are willing to give a referance for the shop--if they were happy

Ask how many of these specific trans they have done over the last 12 months
any returns, failures
does it include new or rebuilt torque convertor, new external selenoids
are they rebuilding yours or a swap?

ROFL, all of the V6 AT trans parts are USDM then shipped to Japan. It's kinda like these companies selling "JDM" J series engines, they are ALL built here in the states in Merryfield and Alabama then shipped over.

I have to have my 00tl trans rebuilt as well. One shop wants 800, the other wants 2,500 CDN. Both have same warrenty, but the more expensive shop is the one with good reviews, big price difference, but i think ill go with the one with good reviews compared to no reviews

these are the answer the guy gave me:
We rebuilt the whole transmission , all the seals of out side and inside
parts.
That is why we give one year warrnaty parts and labour or 20.000 KM , even
towing in town , after installation if something happens.

Yes , we change the turque convertor too .

We have installed over 100 these transmission , Acura , Odeyssey . Civic , Accord . ect.
We do installation everyday . we only do engine and transmission only ,.
We are so sure , about our job , and that is the reason that we can give one year warranty parts and labour .
The price is $1350:oo the price will not change . unless there is other problem in your car , such as engine , or brake or tires ,ect

steeze was that labor only price- no way anyone is doing it for 800 and replacing any parts!!

or do you have to take it out of the car for them too?!

I look forward to your happy posting after test drive and first road trip!!

my advice is be gentle to normal first 500 miles, no racing
next 500 normal to hard- if its going to have a problem make it show up now

Dont baby it around at first- it needs the parts to gently wear into each other,
but not program the ecu to lower than desired shift points
Its learning as you drive

i brought it in today they gave me a piece of shit to drive lol plymouth sundance.
by the way i decided to take a safer road ,my friend's mechanic will take care of it for 1900 (rebuild done by a place he knows is trustable) i asked him to change the rear main seal too...i think its better to spend 400 extra but have peace of mind!
i cant wait to get my car back!!!!

it does slightly adjust to your style,,but has its own parameters too
$1900 is a realistic price for labor and decent amount of parts, on the frends discount

Sounds really cheap. My dad charges at least 2500 for these transmissions at his transmission shop. But there's not much trustworthy competition here in New Orleans, so he can set his prices high IF customers want to pay for high quality work.

2500 is pretty average as reported here
On the friends discount, under 2g is a score!

there is a tone of rebuilders here in montreal canada
but iv heard you get what you pay for .... still is a competitive market
especially here with the cold and snow people bust trannys all the time...anyways my next car will be manual for sure.

how long can you expect a rebuilt tranny to last under normal driving conditions(no racing...)?

should last about same as the original one?? maybe longer if better clutch parts used
are you in the post 05 case?
It may last longer if you keep on the fluid changes~

a place in DDO did the job was refered by a friend they told me over 4000$ to do it its not worth it better sell your car and buy a manual unless you have money to burn.i can give you more detail if you want

another thing never trust the dealers they are the worst thief and they are not honest...from my many experience with them

superdave i rather pay 200 extra so i dont have to deal with dealers and by the way acura do not rebuild tranny they just swap them...you probably got goodwill from them if thats the case.

or do you have to take it out of the car for them too?!
"Should have been more specific, Thats before tax doing the removal myself" $800 does sound very cheap, so i'm quite skeptical myself. I'm giong to go with the shop with reviews and reccomendations

the actual labor time to remove and install the trans is 4 hours,,some labor guides may give 6

doing it at home you need a super heavy duty trans jack - the trans unit weighs 450 pounds without fluid
thats a LOT more than the average car,, and can fall off or tip a weaker jack, damage trans external bits, or worse,,YOU get crushed or broken parts!!

see if the shops will give contact info for referrals by TL owners
Their experience with other brands has no relavence to our trans rebuild

The inspection of the 2nd gear shaft WILL not tell you if you have wear in the clutchpacks. The ONLY way they can tell you that is by removing the trans and opening it up. Acura service depts WILL NOT do that. The inspection of the 2nd gear shaft is for something completely different and unrelated.

sounds like they ckd you for heat damage to 2nd gear shaft- the recall from 2004
you never got the oil jet kit taken care of? is that correct?

If there had been heat damage found with a boroscope camera, they would have replaced the trans free

Is that correct- now you have the external oil jet kit installed in the filler hole on top of trans??

you can also determine clutch pack wear with an oil analysis- like blackstone labs
it will tell if there are large amounts of ~the wrong things~ floating around loose

I had my transmission replaced by Acura 3 years ago. So I think there's no external oil jet kit from what I think.
I told the service rep that Sometimes my car jerks when shifting from 2nd to 3rd. He said we didnt found anything wrong the the trans, and a trans oil change would be a good thing to start with...
