Wacky Wipers

My wipers are a bit messed up... usually the driver's side blade will go to the edge of the windown and then back, but sometimes it will not go far enough.

The dealer said it the wiperblade motor needs a new transmission, but I'm wondering if it's just a loose screw somewhere.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
[Ch]amsalot

The arms that attach to the motor assembly have plastic clips on em. sometimes they wear and the arms need to be replaced. My wipers were inconsistant. Sometimes they would hit the edge of the window frame and sometimes they would not hit it and work fine. The plastic clips on the wiper assembly (underneath the plastic panel at the bottom of your window) wear and you just need to replace the arms. They aren't real expensive and will make your wipers work like new if it isn't the motor and transmission. Only one way to find out = get to the wiper motoer and assembly and see if the arms are worn and loose.

Is getting to the wiper motor assembly something I can do without having to unscrew anything? I'm a mechaphobe. But I'm more than happy to look at things.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

It takes some getting to. I don't yet have a manual for the TL. On my Accord you had to remove the wiper blade arms then remove the plastic cover over the wiper assembly. Took a little work to do that. Maybe someone here will help with an online diagram. Sorry I don't have one

I did this yesterday. Wasn't too hard. You gotta lift the plastic trim on the bottom of your windshield. There are three little round tabs you need to remove (use a screw driver). Then remove the wiper arms (use a wrench). Open the hood, and you should now be able to lift the plastic trim far enough for you to be able to get to the connecting rod unit. Simply pop off the old one and pop on the new one.

The acura part # is 6540-S0k-A01.

Hey about the wipers. Has anyone ever noticed that when you have your wipers on intermittent and you stop the car that they don't wipe as soon as the setting? When you start driving again they start to move to the time setting you have them on.

I believe that is how our wipers work. It has sensor when the switch is in that mode.

you will need either 14 (driver side) or 15 (passenger). Normally, the gear got broke loose on these arms.

It was either 11 or 12. Can't remember which one but I'm pretty sure it was the shorter one. Call your local Acura dealer (parts dept) and order the part number I specified above. They can get it within a day - you can then just go and pick it up. It cost me $30.

Not for me. It was definitely the shorter of 11/12 for me. Once you remove it it's obvious what's broken - the plastic cap that holds the rod in place.

You may want to try these:

www.acuraoemparts.com or www.overnightautoparts.com

Not sure the exact part you are seeking, but these may be helpful
