Valve Clatter

Getting a lot of valve clatter at idle. Any standard causes known?

Oil level is good, just a lot of chattering.

Where did you get that deal? Did they include the free snake oil treatment? From what I can see in the Helms manual, and what's been posted on the board, it's not a simple process.

You sure it's valve clatter and not the purge control solenoid making noise?

adjusting the valves is pretty easy if you know what you are doing with the right tools and time. I do it on my gsr a couple times havn't tried doing it on the TL because there is no need to yet

Have you looked at the TL and how to do it? Its not as easy and the gsr 4 cyl which is sitting right there on top for you. lots of things have to come off

yea u right the TL would be harder because of 6 cyl and the more stuff that has to be taken off but the concept should still be the same isn't it...

Is the purge solenoid ticking normal or a sign of a bad solenoid?

So if it is the purge control solenoid (PCS), how would I tell the difference?

and next, is it an issue that the PCS is making a lot of noise?

Where is the Purge control solenoid located? I assume on the firewall somewhere, but not sure where.

I have the same problem and checked it out tday. Its definately the PCS. Should I change it? That noise sounds horrible from the outside of the car. Plus I only noticed it at idle.

I ment normal as in a normal problem. Im only asuming that there is something in side that jsut gets noisy with age. Mine has come and gone acouple times. Usually makes the noise only when cold outside

ok, I guess I'll wait till warmer weather and see if it still ticks like crazy...if so I'll replace it. I have another noise i am trying to track down...everytime i accelerate from a stop it sounds like motor mounts or sway bar bushings creaking. Its VERY noticeable inside the cabin (sounds like drivers side only though) everytime i accelerate from a stop (either fast of slow).

I had a sound that sounded like a bad ball joint or bushing and squeeked and clunked. From inside teh car it sounded like it was coming from the passenger side. I figured it out the other day whn i pulled teh engine out. It was the rear engine mount.

ah shit I hope its not that. Although i do have a feeling it is one of the engine mounts. My question is this: how can i check? I know i can replace them myself so long as i support the engine, but i would feel a whole lot better if i knew that was definately the problem first

I wish i had the guts to do what you do fsttyms1. During the summer i can cause i wake up the vette from hibernation, but the Acura is my DD all winter and in bad weather. Not to mention I dont have a garage to work in so workign outside in like 10degree weather isn't going to happen
