Turning on the heat
Turning on the heat
When I go to turn on the heat, I press AUTO on the dash and then I hear the A/C engage until I press the A/C button and it shows as A/C OFF
is there another way to turn on the heat without having the A/C engage everytime I press AUTO?

I'd like to help but probably there isn't a way since by pressing AUTO you've engaged a system under program control. Unless there is a hack for that? -- If I could ask you a slightly different question on heating.. My 2003 TL has a thing it does where if the outside temperature is about 48F or lower, it seems get the car warmer than I'd like it.. If I want my car at 70 inside, I usually need to set it at 62 or 63 because setting it at 70 is too hot.. But if it's warmer than about 50 outside then it's not overly warm.. In fact it works fairly ok.. Does your TL act like this in any sense? I hope you don't mind me asking a slightly different question on top of your own question, but I've been desperate to find answers to my own TL heating problems for a year now..
thats an interesting q man....I have no clue as I usually just set the temp to 75 inside the car and i have it on the lowest setting...how can u even tell the interior temp of the car?
maybe the newer TL's are designed like that....but the only way to tell is to have some type of interior temp reading...maybe it truly is giving u the temp u requested; but you are finding it too hot due to personal reasons.....?

Thanks for the response... Well, I questioned it when it felt warm enough to make me think something was wrong with it. I can also tell because I took a hand held thermometer and held it to the vents. But even though I did that it's a tricky thing to figure out because if the car needs to warm up a bit, it may pump out fairly warm air for a while before it stabilizes. So I had to be careful and wait a while before determining that it was staying too warm... Here is 3 examples. Notice how it's different below or above about 50.
Just last week it was about 45 outside.. I set it for 70 inside, but it felt stuffy and warm in the car. The very next day it was about 55 degrees outside. Again I put it on 70 and then the air felt pretty cool. It felt good actually. The inside was kept comfortable around 70..
Then the day after that it was about 49 degrees out. Only 6 degrees cooler.. I again set it to 70 and inside and the air felt way too warm again. Turning it down to 61 or 62 helped a little, but the air remained warm at the vents. If I turn it all the way down to 60 the lowest setting I get very cold air.. But 61 is warm and feels nothing like you would think 61 would feel. Strange huh?
It's almost as if there is something sensing the outside temperature and it's thinking that it's cool, so it had better give me extra heat.. Only it over does it, LOL. OH, and if it's 32 degrees outside, it pumps 130F air (measured on the thermometer) and keeps it up until the cabin becomes 90 degrees..
To keep from getting too warm, I just turn my fan way down like you do with yours. It does make it hard when I want lots of fresh air though.
In a nutshell, I thought maybe I could figure it out by comparing to other Acuras.. Mine is a 2003 TL.

Basically I'm trying to figure out if all 2003 TL's tend to do this or it's just mine. I did find another thread where people were complaining about the same thing, but I've lost it and need to re-find it and make sure it was the 2003 TL and not something else.
