turn signal problem

i was driving home from work the other day and my turn signal began clicking for no reason. it was really annoying but i ignored it. the next day on the way to work my left turn signal started going off with no reason and the clicking continued. i noticed that smoke was comming out of my steering column. now none of my turn signals work and there is still that annoying clicking. my hazards work and its not the fuses. i thing it might be the turn signal relay but im not sure. i would try and replace it but i cant find it.

the smoke would be an indication its more than a relay!

99s have an ignition switch prob--no reason to think a 2000 doesnt have the same problem- just no 1 time recall freebie for us after 99 owners

I would inspect the turn signal assembly inside steering column for worn out bushing causing funky ~operation at will~
iirc you can buy just the T/S part without the entire wrap around assembly
