Trying to hardwire my radar....getting angry, please help!

Ok, I'm trying to hardwire my bell 995 into my 00 tl. Bell makes a hardwire kit for this, so installation should be a snap....I don't know what the deal is. I took out the part that holds sunglasses, where I thought I could tap into one of the various wires that are there to power the detector. I've tried almost every one (front overhead lights, rearview mirror, and the lights in the visors. These wires should carry enough electricity to power my radar detector. Someone please help....let me know if i'm doing something wrong (The other end of the wire WAS grounded every time, so thats not the problem). Or if you've done it yourself, what wire did you run it off of? I know I could do it though one of the wires in the fusebox, but I have no idea which one, and I'd rather run it from the rearview area.

Thanks in advance for anyones help, as it will be greatly appreciated.

Ok Rpappi, thanks for your help. For anyone else trying to harwire their radar detectors, I ran it from the white wire that powers the auto-dim rearview mirror, and grounded it to the black. One problem though....When I turn the car on, the radar flashes "low volt" for a second. Does this mean that the radar is not recieving the amount of power that it should?

you can always try to tap it into the sunroof if you can find the plug. im sure that has more current running through it.

It says low voltage because the car is using almost every amount of electricity to start the vehicle. Then once the vehicle is started the alternator takes over and runs all the accessories. Same reason why your lights dim and the radio turns off for a second.

I was reading up on Bell detectors last night and saw where the 65 model detector's firmware had been updated for this exact issue. Certain cars were causing that error during startup - but I don't think it was a big deal. If your detector is flashable, try and see if there's an update available
