Transmission swap possibilities other then av6 ??
I have a 03 tl-p and the transmission just went out....so I'm looking for any possible other tranny swaps that are a bolt up instead of the av6...because I cant seem to find a av6 tranny near me but I see all kinds of mdx and odysseys at my local junkyard...thanks in advance for any info.

I see that your location is in California (thank you for filling that out btw) there are a lot of shops here that will ship it for 50-100. Have you tried asking? There really isn't a more reliable solution as the odyssey's transmission was too affected by the design flaw that made our transmissions wear out so quickly. Another note: the accord trans is pretty bullet proof, so if you can get one with less than 100K miles, you should be good to go.

Null and proud of it
Yeah the early 2000's Odyssey's were specifically awful with their transmissions, probably worse than the 2G TL.... The 2005 and 2006 MDX's were better, but a 7.5G AV6 transmission is leaps and bounds aheah in terms of reliability!!!

Don't worry about looking for crashed TL's at the pick and pull, they won't have a transmission you want.
There are two options. LKQ and car-part.com I would keep looking on car-part.com, they have better prices as they are just a listing of what all the salvage yards have; and most salvage yards are willing to negotiate on price/delivery fees.
what I mean about having it shipped: you can have your transmission shipped to your door! they put it on a palate, wrap it up, and send it away.
try to read through the AV6 swap thread TONS of info there, and check out this link of a success story that really left me feeling like I (with my limited experience) could do it.
Havener Garage: The Definitive 2nd Gen Acura TL AV6 Transmission Swap Guide
i would expect to spend about 500-1200 on a transmission and another 100-200 on accessories (fluid, seals, tools).

Regarding the MDX, my understanding is the mid-2000s version of the MDX had a different transmission bellhousing bolt pattern which will NOT bolt up to then engine on a 2G TL.

That all sounds good if I had the funds to go that route. I'm in a financial bind right now and cant afford that price range fix. I just want to get somthing real quick and cheap throw it in so it can last me a few more months and then I'm gonna have money to do the 6spd swap.thanx for all the info you have given me that will definitely come in handy later down the line.

Well when I actually start to collect the parts for the swap I'll do it conservatively not all at once..so I won't be bankrupt haha..but man oh man the satisfaction and pay off of having a 6spd swap will make me forget how much I spent..lol I'm hoping to have it in and running by next summer...I'm in no hurry to do it..I'm gonna take my time...I want to do it one time and one time only..

the 05 also has a high rate of failure, why would you put it in?

lack of money and they need the car now. I have access to a totaled 2005 TL trans that I can swap practically free that had no known problems before the wreck. They look the same. I know nothing about the high failure rates as this 2003 TLS had 210000 on it and it just went out. knowing whether it will fit is a big need for me.

Yes, the 2005 trans should work, but no bets on how long it will last.

Guess he/she isn't that great of a friend if you're knowingly put in another bad transmission
