So I went into the local acura dealer to see if they had any 03 CL-S 6MTs, and when they didn't the guy suggested I look at a TL. He had a 02 and an 03, both type S. I kindly said no thank you because of the transmission drama. He told me that they had recently figured out what was wrong, that it was that some of the trannys were built in ohio and only certain VIN numbers were affected. he claimed that he could tell if they a tl had a bad tranny or not based on the VIN number, yet refused to tell me what numbers were good and what numbers were bad. He also said that the reason people keep blowing trannys is that acura used to replace bad ones with bad ones, but now they are replacing them only with the "good ones" Is there ANY truth to what he said, or is it all BS?

 

Eh kind of true. What he told you is true though part of the 03s are NOT covered in the vin warranty extention but that doesnt seem to help much. Acura thought they had fixed the problems for those cars but they didnt. Now as far as replacing bad trannys with good ones thats true now. They redesigned the tranny in 02/05 and those arent failing like the old ones.
