Tranny Problems what year?

I've been reading that most of the trannys affected are the five speed 2000 and up models. Is this true? Im looking in to buying a 99 model with the 4 speed tranny and just cant seem to narrow it down to a paticular model. Thanks!!!

All years have them that are effected. The 99s are just not as much.

If it has less than 100,000 miles, the transmission might still be under an extended warranty.

If it's out of warranty, a transmission rebuild/replacement could cost several thousand dollars.

But, FWIW, I recently bought a 1999 TL and I love the car.

yes, and i would look for a 2002 or newer (most likely to still have extended warranty) also check the vin with acuras owners link to verify that it does indeed have warranty. As some vin ranges of 03s wernt covered by the extended warranty

At the end of this year, no 1999 model will be covered by the extended warranty.

It may have taken a while before Acura realized that the transmisision problems were statistically significant. Even those transmissions that eventually failed might work fine for, say, 50,000 miles. That can be a couple of years of driving.

And then it can take time to identify the specific cause of failures and to design and test a fix. Transmissions are fairly complex mechanisms. (There is some hope that the design update made in February of 2005 has resolved the early failure problems.)

It took quite awhile to find out they had a the problem they did, Then they have been working on it trying to figure out how to address the problem. Its not like they just said lets use a bad one for everyone. They had been trying to resolve teh issue

Well i checked on the Acura website and signed up for owner link and it says the tranny recall is still open. There is a Ignition recall and it says fixed on it. I think im at the peak of the ext warr. Its a 99 w/85000 miles. Should i complain about it and have them replace it even thought it seems fine? Or should i just hold on for a bumpy ride? Thanks for the help!

ya i came to find out my 2003tls does not have the extended warranty to 100k, which is scary. my tranny was replaced @ 27k. I asked acura what changes were made to my new tranny compared to the old one & dude said " ". my wifes 2000tlp is warrantied to 100k, but not my 2003tls. makes a lot of sense huh!?
