Your transmission might be failing.

What year is your TL?

How many miles on it?

Are you covered by the extended warranty on the transmission?

If you're still under warranty, you should take it to your local Acura dealer.

Hi Bob, just posted a thread a few minutes ago, and mine is the same thing. I had a transmission guy drive it about 5 miles, and it didn't do it with him, and when he tested the code it read " TCC electrical", so the transmission guy said if it was a bad transmission it would do it all the time. I replaced the soleniod lock-up switch and it's still doing it, so the transmission guy said it could be wiring to the switch, what were the codes reading for your transmission?

when you say kms- do you own a Canada spec car?
The US extended warranty is 109 thousand miles
The US warranty is also different than Canuks get- from what I heard here- please advise of truth

If you are covered take it in, tell them keep it as long as they need, drive it to lunch whatever- just give you a loaner and call when its fixed

when i called acura they said it was only offering warranty up to 104,000 miles, and the guy said anything over 109 was normal wear and tear. How do you know if you are still covered under the warranty?

99 3.2 TL
163000

Tranny problem

I think if you have any concerns at all go to your local Acura dealer and talk to the sevice people about it. I have a 99tl with 97,000 and 7 years 6 months, 7 years 9 months the limit. I talked to them about my transmission and concerns and today they have me in a loaner (06 TL) while they put a new transmission in mine.
They were great to deal with, very impressed and it was the first time I was ever there. I bought the car in December with 96,000 on it and was just worried about the transmission, now I don't have to worry any longer.
Just go talk to them , even if your your over the mileage or time it seems they can do something for you.

As long as the local Acura dealer said its still under warranty, get it into the shop right away.
BY LAW they have to write it as diagnose and advise with a 1.5 hour labor estimate.
As soon as prob is determined to be warranty then its no charge to you

Good luck let us know how it works out for you

Sometimes you get a bum unit just like any other product.
They are a bit complex and the dealer totally stands behind the replacement-
free loaner car and all- sorry sir- we will run your car thru the scratchomatic carwash for you too!!

I wonder is certain things are normal on mine, there are sometime slight engagement delays- and I have the cell phone number for the Service Manager, to bypass the writers and have it looked at anytime.

There is some cautious optimism that Acura resolved the major reliability problems with some design/material changes made in February of 2005. Your new transmission would include all of those changes so you may have a very reliable transmission now. But only time will tell.

I just bought a 99 3.2 TL 2 weeks ago. I am so glad to know i am in the same boat as many of you. What is with the Tranny on these cars? Consumer report pointed it out as the one weak point but i thought at 163,000 km i would be fine. Now the engine light is on, dealer diagnosis brought up a code stating diff failure in the tranny. Lagging and wierd downshifts are apparent when cold. Luckily i have Global Warranty or i would be hooped. Any canadians out there with the same car same problem? Please tell me how much the work cost was.. parts and Labor. Thanks

A lot of the 1999 TLs have already lost the extended warranty coverage by exceeding the 7 year + 9 month limit. The warranty coverage is 109,000 miles or 7 years + 9 months, whichever occurs first. The time limit starts from the car's original in-service date.

My 1999 TL, for example, reached the time limit a few months ago. Next year at this time the same thing will be happening for the 2000 TLs, regardless of the mileage on the car.
