Tranny issue p1768 p1753

2000 tl type s with 4 speed sport shift, pulling out of driveway the d4 started blinking and the check engine light came on. the trans went into limp mode and threw a p1753, P1768, downstream o2 sensor code, and electronic load detector code. is the tranny done or are the solenoids worth replacing? ive checked the connections under the battery tray they seemed fine but thats about all i know to check. please dont tell me to search the threads because im new to this forum and acuras in general and there are way too many examples of these codes to know for sure. any help would be great please add your

Welcome Joeywgand !!!

~First off, understanding that you are new to Acuras.....the 2000 model TL had only 5 speed sport shift automatic trannys. The older 4 speed AT's were only in the '99 model.
~Secondly, there was no type "S" option available on the 2000 model TL. So, on to your codes and possible tranny issues. Here are the basic details, a factory service manual download would be helpful.

P1753 = a possible problem with the lock-up control solenoid. The D5 will blink.
Check the wiring connection and the #6 fuse (15A) within the driver's inside fuse panel.

P1768 = A possible problem with the A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve A. D5 blinks.
Check connections, try cleaning solenoid screen and check the #6 fuse again.

If you have other miscellaneous codes, write them down.....then try clearing them by pulling the #13 Clock back-up fuse (7.5A) within the passenger's side inside fuse panel. This will "reset" the PCM. Chances are that the codes will come back if there's a problem with the ELD or O2. These problems both need to be addressed before writing off the tranny as bad.

is it a 4 speed or a 5 speed, makes a huge difference in what course of action

any backstory to the car- how long you have been driving it, any warning signs of slipping trans in 2nd and 3rd gear on hard acceleration?
clunking thunking etc?
known fluid? level is correct, pink to red fluid, not burnt smelling or brown?

codes are clues, not a diagnosis in themselves
have to put them together and figure what is happening for real

I put in a 2006 Accord V6 transmission (finally!) into my 2000 TL and it was working great for about 3 days (despite all the codes it was throwing, which I assume was because it likely sat on a shelf for 6 years or so...).

Suddenly I'm getting a perpetual P1753 code. With the car off/ignition "on", I will clear the code but it comes right back immediately (don't even need to start the car, just wait 5 seconds and it comes back). I've replaced the Lockup solenoid (which I think is also the TCC - Torque Converter Clutch) solenoid with a "newer" albeit not brand-new solenoid from my old 3.2 TL transmission.

I doubt it's the solenoid itself, but perhaps the wiring? Should one or both female connections inside the connector be 'hot' when the ignition is "ON"? This sounds like a "wiring" issue, but I don't know where to start.

How do you test the connector to the solenoids and what should I be looking for? And where is the "Drivers side fuse box"? I have nothing near my kick-panel other than a relay-junction box.

Any help is greatly appreciated, this is getting soooo very frustrating....I'm sooo close, yet can't seem to work out all the kinks....

No sooner did I hit the "send" button for the above and I see a big panel on the side of the dash with "Fuse / PULL" written on it....Good gravy, I've been working on this too long....


Unfortunately fuses aren't the problem....

Just to close this out in case someone in the future encounters this code (P1753 or P0753 in my case), after giving up and taking the car to the Acura dealer, the technician explained it took quite some time to locate the problem, but it turned out to be: a GROUND connection.

Specifically, it was the "G151" ground connection which was loose on my transmission.

Grrrr! $250 to clean and tighten a connection I must have missed when transferring the harness that connects to the trans temp sensor and clutch pressure switch (the "First" step in 666Wokker's "FAQ: 06-07 AV6 Swap"), which contains the G151 ground I believe!!

Lesson: CHECK YOUR GROUND connections!!

Hey RTH, thanks for checking back in ..... and following up. It really does prove beneficial to others who may encounter a similar situation. Sometimes the simple stuff is overlooked.

But hey, now you're good to go. Proves that even the trained techs can stumble also !!!

as a general tip- its time for us to clean all the ground contacts- ck the batt cables condition. 10-13 years is a long time, and possibly replace the woven wire grounds from frame to engine and trans
Those wires get gnarly and acura makes a replacement kit- or diy them from parts store bits

when a car runs funny- unusual or erratic voltage, its time to clean the grounds and start with that as a known good, then test.
without good ground the electronics go haywire
why do you think they installed several?
