TL-s: Should the shifter console be illuminated?
Hi there,
I just bought an '02 TLs over the weekend. They had to replace the shifter assembly because the previous owner apparently clogged the internals with soda, which made it very hard to shift gears. (Thankfully not a tranny problem.)
My question is: Should that console be illuminated at all? I see the gear indicator lights on the dash, but shouldn't there be some right there at the shifter? My other cars always have, so I'm thinking maybe there's a bulb out or something?
Thanks!

Yes there is a bulb under the indicator, it is a Type 74 bulb, and easy to replace. Just twist off the shift knob (counter clockwise), lift up the bezel around the shift gate, lift up the shift gate plate, lift up the indicator and it is under there.
Thanks!
It was a little touch-and-go there for awhile when I couldn't yank the old bulb out and then the socket fell into its hole when trying to insert the bulb, but in the end thanks to your instructions and some prayer it all worked out just fine. Thanks very much for the info!
