Question TL 2002 tranny question

Hello All,
I have a 2002 tl base model, my tranny is gone, I replaced it with an used one and that one was even worse. Now i have a friend (mechanic)that has a TYPE S tranny, just wanted to know if is going to work, he said that the only difference is that the TYPE S tranny will shift faster than a base model tranny.

Any ideas???

I believe the trannys are the same.. What's different is the engine. So it SHOULD work.

Welcome to Acurazine!

Did you try to get coverage from Acura under the 7 year 9 month, 109,000 mile extended warranty on the transmission?

Even if it was out of warranty many TL owners have received some amount of goodwill coverage from Acura.

Read the "Tranny Failure Thread" for details:

That's a shame but at least you tried.

On the transmission differences, my impression from reading this forum is that they are the same. The parts department of your local dealership and should be able to confirm that.

Thanks a lot guys, I told the mechanic to go ahead and put in the TYPE S tranny, will let you know the outcome (finger crossed), if it doesn't work I found a place near my house that charge 950.00 to rebuild it with 6 months warranty plus the 300.00 from my mechanic to drop it and reinstall it (1250.00 total).
Again thanks guys, you are the best.

One thing you might want to ask about the new transmission is whether or not it includes the improvements that Acura reportedly made in February of 2005. Acura may have significantly improved the reliability of the transmissions with those changes.

From: The grande.. Riverdale NJ.. Hopefully moving to skyline village in Lincoln park NJ..yes dirty jersey
Dam that REALLY cheap...

I called about 7 tranny rebuilders in north jersey for the atsa and they all wanted $2500-$3500 TO REBUILD THE WHOLE THING AND GIVE 12/12 WARRENTY...
I found a guy who sounded like he knew what he was doing is Rebuilding the whole tranny w/aftermarket parts that are better then what acura Uses he is installing a external ATF cooler and using Amsoil sythetic fluid and charging me $3000 with 3/36 warrenty..parts and labor

I would jump on it but try to at least get a 12/12 warrenty parts and labor
