Timing belt?

The guy I bought my car from said he did the timing belt and waterpump @ 105,000 Miles....

I cant be sure of this...b/c I forgot to ask him for proof

So Im wondering if the timing belt if the one at the left side of the engine? It's exposed...is that it? I pulled on it and there are no gaps and looks in pretty much new condition....

I have a 00 Tl and wondering if I'm lookin at the right belt!

The belt you can see is accessory belt- many replace it at the same time because you remove it to get to the real parts

The timing belt is inside the big plastic cover behind that belt

Look in the radiator for clean looking coolant, a sign
the pump was changed.
If you can-climb under the car andlook up- you should see a semi-shiny pump

It was probably done by a good owner and you scored a savings of several hundred dollars!

well the coolant is green in color..thats for sure.....but regarding that shiny pump, its snowy and shit outside so it must have been dirtied

Actually the guy did not take care of the car much....he fucked up the PS pump b/c he didnt put fluid in there and now it needs replacing...but im hoping he is right on the timing belt...he is an older man who seems to be sincere...after all he was honest about replacing the tranny...

but is it fair to assume that since that belt looks brand new and has no gaps then they must have done that belt along with the water pump and timing belt? I really want to make sure...even a visual of the timing belt will enable me to rest a bit b/c if there are no gaps/rips then atleast u can tell its pretty new...car has 130 miles

See thread on 105k service
Southern did the whole thing with pics and descriptions so you
can see whats involved in removing that cover to inspect
Its likely it was done if you have clean coolant at 130k

Any chance there are receipts in the car from the same shop
or try calling the former owner and asking where it was done
Shops keep records of cars by customer name usually, and
often remember what was going to be needed soon

Power stering pumps fail- sometimes the rack leaks and thats the source- so make sure to locate origin of problem
PS fluid checked with engine off
Trans fluid check engine OFF and warm

No. You can try to takeoff the inspection covers on the heads to see if the belt looks new but its going to be very hard to tell

is it necessary to replace the timing belt on a 2003 TL if I have only 60,000 miles and keep it garaged all the time except when it is driven??? Thanks for your help.

wow- congrats on digging up an existing thread,, but your info in found all over the numerous threads on the subject

if driven in `severe service` according to the book- then 60 is scheduled
age is worse than miles, Earths loss of Ozone layer means rubber deteriorates faster

but if it were my car, Id look at the ac belt as an example of how things are doing
then not worry about the tbelt job yet--but def start saving up for it

not driving the car much can be worse for it than higher miles!
