Throtte Position Sensor (TPS) Replacement

Hi all,

I had to scan my 2003 TL-S for an error code as my VSA and Engine lights were on and my shifting became really rough.

It came out with 1 code that said i needed to replace the TPS. We called acura about the part and it will cost $600 because they can only sell the entire Thottle body with the sensor.

Has anyone purchased and installed an aftermarket TPS that fixed the issue?

I saw one online somewhere made by OMNI that fits multiple hondas and acuras.

Can someone chime in here and let me know your experience and what is your suggestion?

you will have to cut slots into the stock rivets to remove them like a screw, then you will need a multi meter and spend some time getting it set where it needs to be. (its not as simple as unscrew replace and you are ready to go. A few others have done it.

I replaced mine.

As Kris said, you take a dremel and cut slots into the "rivets" that hold it down. They are bolts that the heads are snapped off. So cutting the slots allow you to unscrew them with a flat blade screwdriver.

Clean off the old gasket material and install the new gasket. Then install the TPS, leaving the new bolts (allens) on loosely so you can adjust the sensor. Reconnect plug.

You'll need a ohm meter to calibrate it. Basically you turn the TPS a little bit at a time until you get the right ohm reading (.45). It says volts in the instructions but that's wrong.

I was going to suggest the auto recycler yard for a used TB assembly or the TPS from one
certainly worth a phone call

Thanks everyone for the replies. Did you all buy the TPS from eBay or is there a website you'd recommend?

you can call acura 1 800 382 2238 x5 tell them doing a `pre buy inspection` and recall and warranty repair ck
strangely, they dont always know if the trans was replaced~ only that it got the recall installed external oil jet kit

So look at the bolt heads on trans bolts--blue paint is acura warranty exchange trans

there were improvements with the post 2005 replacements, but no fix ever made fully.
03 has the same probs as 00-2005!!!! but many 03 are not part of the trans extended warranty VIN range
you can ask the 800 person about that too--are you covered?

IIRC Omnipower is the only supplier of those. I think all of the Ebay auctions are theirs.

I've purchased two of them (one for me, one for someone else) from them with no problems. Check ebay, occasionally they drop their price for an auction or two.

Omnipower

Just so you all know, Omnipower no longer stocks Throttle Position Sensors for Acuras.

I recall reading about other companies that offer them now. I can't recall the specifics, but it might have been dorman, or someone like that. Possibly car-quest or napa.
