Temp gauge

Hey guys,

I noticed yesterday that when I turn on my car first thing in the morning, after about one minute the temp gauge instantly jumps to operating temp. It stays there. It never wavers or fluctuates. Even after it has sat from 8:30 to 12 or from 1 to 4:40 (yeah, I just gave you my lunch schedule) As soon as I turn on the car, hot or cold, it jumps straight to normal temp, which is a few ticks below half way. I also noticed that my fans seem to be kicking on constantly for a few seconds and shutting off. I am not leaking any fluid. It definitely does not seem to be overheating.

Is this common? Anyone know of a fix?

Thanks in advance,
Scott

Unless ya live in a very warm climate, the temp gauge should take several minutes to get up to operating temp depending on how cold the engine actually is. So, this is not common.

Chances are that the coolant's temp sending unit for the gauge is faulty and may be inaccurate in sensing the actual temp.

Sorry, I guess I could have made that question a little more clear. Is it a common problem?

Basically my first thought was temp sending unit, but I have made the wrong purchase before and wanted to make sure first. I very much appreciate your input. I'll replace asap and let you know the result.

sounds like a temp sendor to dash problem

does the pass side fan come on with AC on? it should and stay on
does the driver fan come on when car sitting at stop for a few to several minutes?
should operate a few times as it catches temp changes
That one is a well known failure point,,makes fan run 10 minutes after shutdown and not run as temp climbs to redline~!

remove wire to dash sensor and place to ground-metal frame--should make guage peg out

my TL is at temp in the 1 mile it takes to get out of the neighborhood
thats by the guage,,but real engine operating temps takes some rpm time to generate heat
