Tail light won't work but brake lights do..help!

Hi,

I am a newbie to this forum, so your help would be greatly appreciated
I have a 2000 TL (Canadian) and the right rear tail light does not come on but when I apply the brake both bulbs on the right side come on.
Is it a fuse? If so, I looked in the manual and cannot find a fuse location for the tail lights. There is a fuse for 'back' (could this be it?) and 'back up lights' (which is your white lights).
If it is not a fuse issue, any other suggestions?
Thanks!

Maybe both tail light filaments are burnt out- did you remove & inspect the bulbs, or replace them?

Replace the bulbs. The filaments probably died.

Brake light bulbs same as tail lights

Hi,

Unless the bulbs have two filaments (I am not Edison, but I am sure this is not the case), I do not believe that they are burnt out.
The same two bulbs are used as the running tail lights at night as the brake lights; the bulbs are one in the same.
I am almost certain that it is something other than the bulbs....so fuses or wiring or ?????

Thanks again

As they get brighter when the brakes are applied as opposed to the brightness when headlights are on.

Hi TLin401, ANC297 and TotaledTL,

Clearly I am not Edison and owe an apology for thinking that dual filaments were not the case. I thought one filament would just get brighter like a household bulb on a dimmer switch.
I will check the bulbs this morning.
Thanks!!!!

Unless the bulbs have turned black because of burnt filaments, you can often just look at them & tell if they are burnt open.

Replaced the bulbs and works great! Gotta love my first post being so idiotic...giving myself a quick kick to the arse for not thinking too hard about this problem! haha

Now does anyone know how to fix an alarm issue with apparently the hood latch? The previous owner had it disarmed because the alarm kept going off and the Acura dealer said it was the hood latch. Thoughts? Ideas?
Thanks again! I am spending waaaay too much time in this forum pouring over all the pics and posts!
