Strong Idle when Stopped, when AC is on!!

Hello, I've looked at many different posts on the board and can't find any info so sorry if this was covered already. I have a 2003 TL Type S, 154,000k. When I have the AC on and come to a stop (like at a stop light) I get a strong Idle from the front. I've looked on the forum and cannot find any info with (Idle when AC is on). All motor mounts are good. I am thinking it is my compressor but am not sure and I know it is a expensive job just to change it and see if that the problem. I never had the AC system checked or recharged because it always blew out cold air. I've had the car about 12 years and have had no problems with the AC till now. I was thinking to get it checked before the idling issue because it didn't seem as cold as it used to be. Then this idling issue started last week. Has anyone had any issues like this before or should I take it to a AC shop. Any information is appreciated. Thank You!!

I assume you mean you have a rough idle when the AC is on. Is the problem only when you stop with the AC on? When you are idling without the AC on is it rough? What is the RPMs when idling with and without the AC being on? If the idle is about 750 with and without the AC on I would be taking it an AC shop. Replacing the compressor is one thing but dealing with the refrigerant is something which I don't have any experience. Sorry.

Thank you for the reply. Yes, a rough idle when the AC is on. The problem is only when the AC is on. When I am idling without the AC on, it is not rough. RPM's are about 750 when the AC is on and when the AC is off. I was doing more research and now i'm thinking it's possible that it could be the serpentine Belt. So I ordered one and will see if it fixes it. Figured I try the cheaper options first.

If the belt has been stretched, making it loose that could very well be your issue. Since the RPMs are the same with the AC off and on, that would be a good place to start. After you try a new belt let us know how it is working. Keep in mind that if the one belt has reached that point the other belts will probably be close behind. When was the last time the timing belt was changed?

I had the timing belt done about 5 years ago. That's true, If the belt is the issue I will have to check the other belts to see if they are ok. I will post back after I change it. Hopefully its fixes the issue. Thanks again for the reply.
