Stripped lug studs
Stripped lug studs
Today I was removing my kosei's to put my stock rims back on and when i finished my last wheel, i noticed that two studs were stripped, completely stipped, to the point were the lugs wont go on at all. So im driving the car with a wheel that has only 3 lugs on it. Is it safe? Also Ive been looking around on the internet and cant find any studs. So my questions are:
Is it safe to drive on 3 lugs temporarily?
Where can i find cheap, preferably used lugs?
How do I install them?
Please let me know. The sooner I get these on the better. I feel very uncomfortable driving on three lugs. Thank you

I'd get that fixed ASAP. Hopefully the 3 lugs that do work form a big triangle and they are not all in a line. You say that two studs are stripped, but then you ask where to find used lugs. So which is it? Are the studs stripped (probably) or are the lugs damaged? You can find replacement lug nuts on eBay or sometime in the black market. There is a DIY for stud replacement in the DIY thread, however the proper way to do it is to remove the wheel hub and install them that way. That, however, requires you to replace the wheel bearing, so its a more extensive/expensive fix.
it is not safe to drive without all of them on.
lugs are cheap and available at any parts store, I went to autozone and paid like $5 a piece for them - do it soon!
They install very easy, no brains needed, maybe a little braun to get old the old ones. They just bang right out from the back , get a mallet or hammer. Take your wheel off, turning it may help get a better angle, i just laid underneath the car on jacks. And bang them out from the back, The new ones just pop right in the same way.
Do yourself a favor, if they are stripped, chances are the old lugs are stripped too. Buy some nice shiny new ones to put on your nice new studs. That way when you torque them on you dont screw them up.

no the studs are stripped and when i tried to put the lugs on i stripped them too. I am not too worried about the lugs ill finds those no problem, but the studs is what i need to find, where can i find them? Also no unfortunatly they dont form a triangle because both of the stripped the studs are right next to each other. Where can i find studs.
You can go with 4/5 but get it replaced asap.
I have 1 stripped stud on my 3G... haven't gotten it replaced yet but I got a free stud from Firestone.
Places like Autozone have them for like $2

autozone and advance carry them, i paid like 5 bucks for them each , they are cheap enough to go do . And sorry , above i noticed i wrote that they come out from behind. I typed faster than my brain !- they bang out from the front (facing the wheel) and install from behind.
so is that true they just bang out? If thats the case and theres nothing else holding them in but sheer force than how is when you drive they dont just pop out? But if thats true ill just go buy them right now and do it.
Banging them out
On the front wheels, rotate the hub around until the damaged lug is facing straight forward (9:00 position) That is where the rotor backing shield is least in the way. When you bang out the stud, it will hit that rotor shield and bend it some until it is out of the way. After getting the new studs in, you can bend the shield pretty much back into shape with some pliers.
I made the mistake of going to a shady tire shop to get a couple used tires once... Idiot stripped 2 studs on one wheel and one on the other. Had to fix it myself, and yes, it was a pain because the hub is pressed on. You'll have to go to a machine shop to have them separate it to pull the lugs out from behind. The lugs and studs are cheap, dealer or autozone or discount tire carry them.
DONT waste your time on used. Buy new. They are cheap. They are under 5 bucks at the dealer.
