Strange Sound When Car is Off

Strange Sound When Car is Off

I'm sure you've all heard then the car is off and you're next to it. About every few minutes or so I hear a weird moaning sound coming from it. It almost sounds like a pump or something? I'm sure it's normal but I've asked a few people and they can't figure out what the sound is. I've never heard it come from any other call but this one.

I know what you are talking about, but I dont know what it is...I have heard it on many cars, not only ours.

i seem to hear it on a lot on hondas, especially on one of my older cars ('94 accord)
i've always wondered this too

I remember reading it was the gas tank venting and that it's normal. Mine does this too.

hmm.. i never notice it. how loud is this sound? where does it come from? and how long does it take for it to make the sound and how often?

Never Heard it on mines might have to wait next to the car next time i turn it off...im sure its normal though ive heard alot of cars make noise after u turn them off to vent. are fans still going to cool things off

It's not that loud. Sounds like a muffled airplane flying by. Comes from the back of the car. Makes the noise every couple of minutes. I don't know how long it last though.

easiest to hear it when your car is sitting in a really quiet area -- like garage or something

Next time you hear it loosen your gas cap quickly .... that equalizes the pressure to the outside atmosphere and the noise stops ....Its definitely coming from fuel vapor venting ..... my TL has been doing it for years though I dont think it has always ... must be something wrong in the EVAP system ?
