Strange Sound When Car is Off

I'm sure you've all heard then the car is off and you're next to it. About every few minutes or so I hear a weird moaning sound coming from it. It almost sounds like a pump or something? I'm sure it's normal but I've asked a few people and they can't figure out what the sound is. I've never heard it come from any other call but this one.

I remember reading it was the gas tank venting and that it's normal. Mine does this too.

It's not that loud. Sounds like a muffled airplane flying by. Comes from the back of the car. Makes the noise every couple of minutes. I don't know how long it last though.

easiest to hear it when your car is sitting in a really quiet area -- like garage or something

Next time you hear it loosen your gas cap quickly .... that equalizes the pressure to the outside atmosphere and the noise stops ....Its definitely coming from fuel vapor venting ..... my TL has been doing it for years though I dont think it has always ... must be something wrong in the EVAP system ?
