i might just say fook it and change out the plugs, and air intake sensor. fyi its started happening when i first took off my intake manifold lastweek. i wiped off this nasty oily shit on my air intake sensor...prolly shouldnta done that. i also checked to see if i have a vacume leak, but i cant find one. any sings of a leak i should loook for?

replace the 02 sensor. your smelling gas because it can't figure out how much fuel to put in. The getting back to idle speed thing isn't out of the ordinary with the 02 being bad either. Your probably getting horrible gas mileage too.

the O2 sensors send info about the air/fuel ratio inthe exhaust
With bad info you get bad running

Remove each one and inspect. One may have severe clogging of the slots or
otherwise appear bad.
There is an electrical test you can run if you have a multimeter

Buy the Bosch sensors at Autozone or place that will allow returns.
Try one sensor then the other. They are ~$85 each
There are also Denso brand for $65
Make sure to buy OE direct replacement NOT the ones you have to splice the wires
Not worth the trouble!

since i don't know much specifically about tl's yet, there are going to be somewhat close to the header (possibly 2 since its a 6cyl) but before the cat. There could be one behind the cat but i believe that one act as a stupid emmision control (someone correct me if im wrong but that was what it was for on a newer chrylsler sebring)

Since it is just throwing an o2 code I would get one 02 sensor. If there are two, I wouldn't think both would be bad so try the first one and if it doesn't work then switch the other. I highly doubt the air intake sensor (map) would be causing the problem as serious as that.

I really need to get a helms for this car.

Ya know I had a similar problem when I was doing my TypeS intake manifold swap. Turns out I was an idiot and forgot to take the plastic wrapper off the cone filter (was trying to keep it from getting scratched up). Basically the car was being starved of air.

Maybe you've got an obstruction somewhere in the intake tract?

I've also had fuel leaks from the rubber washers that hold the fuel injectors in. Maybe you bumped one by accident when you were installing the spacers.

Stick your head under the hood while the engine is running and check for fuel dripping from one of the injectors.

If your throwing a 02 code the code should say primary or 2ndary or front bank or rear bank. Id place money on it being a front one, since that reads before the cat. Also id stay away from mixing and matching 02s. some have had issues with them. Id stick with a oem 02.

Have teh codes read to see whats coming up.

And yes there are 2 02 sensors. the first one is on the exhaust right after the front and rear manifolds merge together and the other is by the cat

OPster

Get the front O2 sensor and install it. Not a big project, may have to buy special socket to remove old one. Use anti seize on threads just like spark plugs.
Autozone has no hassle return policy
Open hood and look as directed in above post

CODES are not diagnosis- they are clues to the real problem
