Strange front end shudder when cold

I have a 2003 TL. When it gets cold (below -5C) I get a loud shudder when I turn the wheel most of the way (either way) and give it some gas. It sounds similiar to when you have a wheel rubbing against some ice on the mud guard, but it is not that. It is definitely something purely mechanical. The noise works on either left or right turns, but only when I give it some gas.
Anyone have similiar experiences?
Thanks

Where do you feel the noise come from? and when the car is moving or standing still and you turn the wheels?

The noise occurs only when you have the wheel turned more than half way and are accelerating through the turn (and only when it is cold outside). I cannot feel anything in the steering wheel. The wheels turn easily to both sides. My sense if that the noise is coming from either directly underneath the motor, or perhaps more to the right side (hard to tell while driving).

Any advise on where to look is appreciated.
