Steering wheel vibration
Steering wheel vibration
Ever since i bought my car i have had a slight vibration at all speeds. I have already replaced all four rotors, pads, new wheels (18" RJ Inspyres), wheel balance, rotation, and wheel alignment. Anybody have any ideas? This is really annoying. All help and suggestions would be much appreciated
I would jack one side of the car up in the front until the wheel is off the ground, then try to shake the wheel left to right and up and down and if there is any play in there then it's probably a bad ball joint. Anyone that does an alignment can tell you right away whether or not you have a bad ball joint.
I have Changed my Ball joints because they were makin ugly sounds like 2 months before But not because of that problem. Today i have the same wheel vibration problem like you have since i replaced my rear wheels and put them in the front and viseversa. That way my Allignment was Good but this slight steering wheel vibration started.

try looking into the suspension components as well, for example the upper/lower control arm, rear control arm,tie rods and steering racks maybe even some of the bushings etc... best thing to do in my opinion would be to take the car on a lift and inspect the undercarriage for any suspicious or wobbly parts but that just a suggestion. not sure if the car has seen some major potholes/accidents/curbs but that will all cause some damage to the vehicle itself
possible bad halfshaft would be my guess. I would have all teh suspension inspected to make sure nothing is loose, if not and all balljoints are good, id suspect a bad halfshaft (especially if it does it with 2 different set of rims and tires)
Is there any noise to the vibration or just a shaking?

Could this be the reason why my my steering wheels shakes @ 50-60mph and when I break 20-30mph? I'll have to jack the car up this weekend and shake the sh!@$% out of it.

I was told my lower ball joints needed to be replaced. My alignment never really straightens out and won't because of this. (I've had 3 alignments done) And my steering wheel vibrates and higher speeds. Also accompanied is a noise that is heard at the same speed as the wheel is turning. I hope after I change out my lower ball joints and replace my 4 tires and give it another alignment that it's okay.

When I bought my certified used '03 TL, I had steering will shake at 70 - 75 mph. It took 2 trips to the dealer, but they finally determined that one of the rims was slightly bent and replaced it to fix the problem.
The steering wheel shake when braking, only between 20 and 30 mph sounds like warped roters to me. I have the same thing, but will wait to either turn 'em or replace them since it isn't that big of a deal. My 1994 Accord was the same way -- seemed to warp pretty easily/regularly.
