Steering wheel shakes
here are some stats,
2003 tl base,
mileage 179,000
had the following done in last month:
front and rear brakes and rotors
tie rods
wheels rotated and balanced
still get steering wheel shaking over 50-60mph
some have said axle problem, ball joints or maybe as simple as alignment.
any thoughts?
thanks

OP: I had the same issue a while back..had a shop re-balance all my wheels and checked everything out really good underneath the front end-all was fine. It still shook when I drove. I finally broke down and went to my buddies shop one day and balanced them myself. Come to find out my front right wheel has a flat spot in it on the inside-the other shop missed it. I put it on the right rear and its barely noticeable.

might also want to check all the suspension bushings, esp those that connect from the upper and lower ball joints on the steering knuckles, if any of them are cracked, or damaged it will cause play hence Vibration..
also normally speed specific vibration, say only happens as you say between 50 - 60 mph but not under 50 or over 60 is usually a tire balance issue, might want to see if the tire shop has a road force balance machine..
if it is across all speeds, then it is play somewhere in the suspension, a bushing, loose bolt, etc..
not sure on the total workings of the TL suspension yet (I'm a Mopar guy converting to Acura at the moment) but something the Mopars have a big issue with is the lower torsion rods and the outer tie rod ends having tons of play.. Most of us end up with aftermarket Bump Steer kits to rid ourselves of the vibration issues.

What about uneven tread? That does have alot to do with the smoothness, I have mitchmatch tires and uneven tread so I get a shake only at around 65 goes away at different speeds. Damn I need tires
