steering noise

What's up guys I've been a long time reader of this form and this is my first official post... So I'm posting because I'm having front end noise when I turn the steering wheel even in slight radius. I've changed the rack, tie rods, struts, strut bushings, ball joints (all four), CV joints. Please help thanks

what kind of noise -thunks or clunks or a belt whine or a tensioner bearing noise??
give us something to go on!!

an alignment shop (private owner, not a big name corp shop) is the best shot at knowing where to look and find for you

but power steering unit -its bearing or belt tensioner are always good suspects

Whine is the PS pump. Air is getting into the system somewhere. Best case scenario, a hose isn't properly tightened.

More likely, the pump is the problem. Easy to replace, but the pump is expensive. Get a mechanics stethoscope(or a long screwdriver), and put it against the PS pump. You'll be able to tell if the noise is coming from inside the pump.

If so, you can try to change the O-rings, but it's probably best to just replace the entire pump. eBay a pump from a salvage vehicle with less than 100k miles. Some even offer lifetime warranty.

I think there was even a tsb for this item. About the oring not sealing properly when the engine is cold but as the oring and pump warm up it seals better and noise goes away. Ill try to dig it up.

When i took my car in to the dealer for the airbag recall last week they mentioned something about I need to do a PS pump reseal... Do you guys know of any DIY on the reseal process?... if so do you guys think it would work being that they mentioned it?... Also if I do get a used pump would I still need to change all the o-rings anyway?

well thats a bit of information you could have shared earlier!!

you can DIY a rebuild- a ziner recently did and posted how easy it was

Question for someone with recent ps experience: Are the orings between the hose and the pump?
in that case always replace them!!

If my memory serves me right, its under the two 10mm screws on the top of the pump. Easy to replace.

Im at work but I found the tsb on google.

If you want to rebuild, your going to need a vice grip. I rebuilt my pulley, and all of the O-rings cost about $20. To replace the problem O-ring, you will have to take off the pulley. You need something to hold the pulley while you unbolt it, or it will just spin.

Be careful of the order when you rebuild it. It's kind of a pain to get everything to go back exactly the way it should.
