starting problem??

hey guys so this afternoon i tried to start my car but for some reason it died after i started it. okay so this is what happened the car started but in just a few seconds it just completely shut off. this happened a couple of times, so after the 2nd time i just started to rev the car, once i stopped reving it would shut off, i tried again the third time i did it a loud popping sound happened right after i reved it, i got out of the car and didnt seem like anything was wrong, so i tried it again. this time i kept reving it for about 20-30 seconds i let go of the gas and everything seemed fine the car didnt shut off or anything so i just drove to work. when i got to work i shut it off and turned it back on just to see if it would start. it started just like it normally would and seemed fine after that. Same thing after work..so i really dont know whats wrong maybe you guys can help me out on this, has anyone else experienced this??

thanks in advance

-Thomas

One possibility is that your ignition switch is failing.

What year is your TL and how many miles are on it?

There was an ignition switch recall on the 1999 TL and possibly the later models.

My 1999 TL had similar symptoms and the problem turned out to be the ignition switch. My car is on its third ignition switch.

Another possibiity is a sticky Idle Air Control Valve (IACV).

You might want to see what other forum members suggest and try searching the forum for older posts.

No, the ignition switch can cause exactly the starting and stopping behavior that you're experiencing. That's how my 1999 TL was behaving. I replaced the ignition switch and that took care of the problem.

Since you have a 1999 TL, first see if the ignition recall was ever taken care of. If that hasn't been done yet, Acura will install a new igntion switch for free. Call your local Acura dealer or the national customer service number with your VIN and they can tell you the status of the recall. Or you might be able to see that information on the Acura Owner Link page, if you've registered your car there.

If he had a sticky IACV, how would you fix it ? The reason I asked because I think I have that problem. Sometimes my car wouldn't start, the engine cranks but wouldn't start until I pump the gas pedal a few times.
My car is 02TL, 89k miles.

Thanks

There is a "how to" post on cleaning a sticky IACV but I don't have the link. Try to find it with the forum search feature and the term "IACV". Some disassembly is required.

stalling problem

Could it be winter gas and the recent warm weather? MY 03 type s did it the other day (64 degrees in january in chicago). My 00 tl did the same thing a few years ago. I took it to the dealer and they said there was a service bulletin and updated softwear. I am taking the 03 in this weekend hoping for the same solution.
