So are you actually getting check engine codes on the catalytic converter and the EGR? If so, that where i would start.

And, since you have a 1999 TL, was the ignition switch ever replaced under the recall? If not, you might as well have that done to eliminate it as a possibility.

Another common issue is a sticky idle Air Control Valve (IACV) although I'm not sure if that could explain why the problem occurs when the car is warm.

Also, try a forum search for start up and stalling problems. There are a ton of threads on this.

remove a spark plug and see what it looks like. It may be original

Do you mean that you changed all six spark plugs? Or did you mean the ignition switch?

I think that I have the same problem.
Only happens when the car is warm... don't know why...
When I start the car, it idles REALLY low, then will shut off if I don't step on the gas to keep the RPM above 1k or 2k. After I get the car going, it's fine again.

I do think that it could be the ignition switch, especially if it was never replaced under the recall.

My 1999 TL had the original ignition switch replaced under the recall. Then, about a year ago, that replacement started to fail. In my case the symptoms were difficult starts, stalling at low RPM and occasional "power outages" while driving. All of this odd behavior was corrected by replacing the ignition switch.

Another start up problem

2003 TL. Car would not start, and was essentially dead with no electrical power. Jumped off the battery, got it started, and had battery replaced (it needed to be replaced anyway). Worked fine for about a week, and then it would not start again, but did start after a few minutes. Had corroded battery cables replaced.

Now, a few weeks later, having problems starting again.....everything electrical is dead, but after a few minutes, the car starts and everything works fine. Now, sometimes the car starts just fine, and sometimes it doesn't.

Any suggestions out there.

Sometimes you just have to replace it if cleaning does not help. I have replaced them on my Prelude and Honda Accord.

'99 TL Start up problem also

hey guys.. i've been reading and searching about start up problems when my car didnt start up today.. '99 TL with 151k miles..

started when I forgot to turn off my aftermarket foglights for about 8-9 hours last night.. so the battery drained like hell.. tried to start it but no go heard the click though trying to turn on the engine.. so i had warranty on the battery so i got a new one.. put it on.. reset everything.. tried turning it on.. nothing.. no click just the assesories everything worked..

i havent changed the spark plugs for 4 years.. dont know if the previous owner did when i bought the car @ 98k miles.. so should i buy new ones? you guys said something about the spark coils?? should i change those also or buy one and test all six to see which is out? I didnt even know about a ignition switch recall.. should i buy that? Which would be my best bet?

any help or suggestions would be great guys.. Thanks
