start up issue

everytime i start up my car weather its hot or cold ive noticed that it takes a long time to start. dont get me wrong it starts up every single time but i feel as if it just does a little bit of extra cranking than normal before it starts. what could be the problem? i just changed my plugs with new oem spark plugs. my battery is good but who knows the last time its been changed. im guessing it has to do something with either the coils or battery. any help is appreciated. 02 TL-S 65k

yes maybe 4 or 5 seconds it takes to start... it might not sound like its too long but 4 or 5 seconds to start a car is excessive, i highly doubt its normal i mean every car ive ever owned started right up in under two seconds.

could be as simple as a loose connection to the battery..start there.

Just because it starts doesnt mean the battery is good. It its aging the CCA voltage may not be there resulting in slightly longer start up time. Others have had the same issue and the battery was the problem. Try cleaning the battery terminals like stated above. Have your battery load tested.

put a dmm across the batt terms, and have some one watch the voltage drop as you crank, then tell us how much the voltage dropped. (easy way to load test)

Mine did the same thing till I replaced the battery. Go to an Auto parts store or garage and have your battery checked. The new battery made a world of difference.

when did the problem start? if its not too long ago than i'd guess the battery.. u'll notice it'll take longer and longer to start than 1 day its just not gonna start anymore...
I changed mine about 2 yrs ago, and now it starts like a charm.

new ngk plugs wont make it hard to start-unless someone sold him the wrong plugs! has happened before,,oh yeah these are stock~

always get parts like battery tested for free before replacement when tracking a problem
You could have weak battery cable(s) they are getting pretty old now

I would run cleaner like seafoam or redline SI-1 thru half tank of gas with full bottle of cleaner- get a baseline of clean to start diagnosis if problem exist after cleaning
If the injectors are dirty the spray pattern goes crazy

Then seafoam or bd or wynns (not to play favorites) the intake manifold via the master vac port- that cleans the intake valves and pistons

Next would be pull the intake manifold and clean the EGR ports- they plug up solid at 75kmiles
