SRS Replacement

I have a 2000 Acura TL and my SRS light is on. I was told that the error code was 5-3 and the module needs to be replaced. The cost is $400+ for the part and $125+ for labor. I would like to do this myself. Can someone tell me where this module is located and how to replace it? A website with detail instructions and photos would be great.

Thanks

SRS light on, I had this on my 2000 TL. After doing some research, i found that you can try resetting this light. I reset mine and the SRS light has been off for a good while now. I'm unsure if you have an actual problem or maybe the shop is just trying to rip you off.

It's worth the time researching, as it's a simple enough procedure to try. I'm sorry I don't have an available link to this info......" how about any of the fellow 'Ziners ? " in helping this guy out before he gets raped !

Could you tell us how you reset yours? Mine came on now and I can't seem to get it to turn off and my 12V outlets won't work now either

SRS reset

Try this link:
tl.acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=779730

If it does not work, try the search feature.....I'm unsure it's working, but it's there somewhere.
Go to the bottom of this page and try the tags. (hit "srs")

in our diy section
main area of gen2 after you sign in, 3rd item down OFFICIAL DIY LIST
click that and all we know is arranged by type of work

if you did ANY electrical work before SRS light, a reset may fix the prob

If it comes back you need to talk with the dealer service MANAGER in person
we had a special 10/150 warranty on SRS,,if you are a bit over on time they may help you out

Well it's a 2000 so he's two years over the time. Will Acura still do it?

Hahaha, my SRS light has been on ever since I bought the car, 6 years now, I thought the control unit was bad; today I reset it and it's gone thanks to this link.

being a safety issue and that it carried a special 10/150,, not a regular warranty length--because there was a known problem, should help
you never know what acura will do -but you start with the service manager,
who calls the regional acura corp warranty rep, who can decide to approve or deny or go to his boss and ask
then you can appeal to a higher acura rep if needed

If you have any service history with dealer or bought cars there, that helps too

this is a good reason why everyone should be registered with acura care
1 800 382 2238 x5
they send out recall notices and -if you ask- dig up extra warranty info like the srs and seatbelt ones
