02 Type S problem, thoughts?
Symptoms = sometimes takes longer to start, hesitates right before starting(very quick, not very noticeable if it wasn't your car).
Car drives fine, does seem down on power though. Gas mileage noticeably worse. Originally a check engine light came on, brought to a shop. Told me plugs/coils possibly.
Three weeks later, car gets hit by friend, have codes checked again. They say they don't think its the plugs or coils, and that they found multiple cylinder misfires. Mechanic said it could possibly have to do with the timing belt but he'd have to rip apart the car further. I said no until I get an idea of what kinda money I'm looking at.
Thoughts?

plugs with 100k on them are toasted
after 70kmiles you need to do the egr system cleaning inside of the intake manifold- makes it run bad
multi misfire codes are usually 1 bad coil..couple ways to test which is bad of the 6,
but start by buying 1 coil
timing belt doesnt throw codes,,if it was so old it jumped a tooth =the engine would die quickly
its due for replacement at 7 years or 105kmiles whichever first
severe cold or hot weather shortens that to 60kmiles
cracks in belt have been found before 100!
belt tension and roller bearings have shot out their grease before scheduled too

seafoam cleans injectors and the rest of the system by adding 1 can to just under half tank of gas,,do that twice
its real tune up in a can!!,,then replace spark plugs= based on age (assuming never done)
many ziners do plugs at 70 and see improved mpg

Hey 02TypeSparks, it's apparent that your TL is hurting and needs all the loving attention that you can afford to give her ! R U able ?
How many miles does the old girl have on the dial ? What, if any maintenance has been done within the last year or 10k ? The "CEL" with codes is telling you to get some help for her !
It'll run, but not very well in a limp mode with faults.....such as cylinder misfire. I hope that you realize that it's not capable of self healing, so try and get that banged up girl some help soon ! The first thing that I'd prescribe is to find a reputable local repair shop to help you realistically diagnose the main issues and give you an estimate on repairs.

first place had the right idea,,codes said multi cyl misfire
not being TL experts, they would not know our particular problem with the coils
2nd shop had no clue and wanted to extract large amounts of cash and/or credit card from you,,
this is a basic job in the ziner DIY world, we can walk the newest noob or experienced tech who is new to their TL thru most jobs
Do you know how to change spark plugs on a regular car
do you have basic socket set hand tools..screwdriver etc
can you follow instructions
is there a neighbor kid who works on cars?

I checked the spark plugs about 5,000 miles back with a friend of mine. The shop told me the spark plugs looked fine. I'm a business owner as well as a full time student with a part time job, money is slim atm. Don't like driving a car that's hurting either.

then buy 1 coil at dealer or parts store for less than 50 bucks
we can walk you thru the troubleshooting of which coil is bad
did the prob start after initial coil removal and plug inspection?
Set one down wrong... and it causes failure some months later!
