Speedometer sticking at hwy speed

Hey guys, I am having an issue with my speedometer. When I get up to 60-70 mph and then let off the gas, the needle stays at my highest speed. I first noticed it after using cruise control and thought that was the issue, but now it happens all the time. Eventually the needle drops back down but it seems to be doing all the time now.

Any ideas? hoping for just a speed sensor.

Arrow Diagnose it first

You could replace the speed sensor and hope that was it.
If it were me before replacing anything I would hook up a scanner with the ability to see Mph, try to replicate the problem and see if what the speedometer is showing you matches with what the scanner is showing.
(Have someone look at both scanner and speedometer while you drive)

That test would tell you if its the VSS or the Speedometer.
If the mph matches both scanner and speedometer while its happening then I would say its the VSS.

Theres some threads that point out cracked soldering on the speedometer circuit board on older hondas not sure if that would apply with our TL`s.

Lastly have a look at the battery terminals and grounds for corrosion or bad connection, could simply be this.

I think it's more likely to be the cluster, not the speed sensor.
