Snapped a header manifold bolt
Snapped a header manifold bolt
Like the title says, I snapped one of my exhaust manifold bolts for the headers (I will get some pics up later but there is not really much to show).
I was still having some resonance from the headers so I decided to try and tighten everything back down again since I hadn't since the swap. When doing the one in the front all the way to the right, the bolt snapped about halfway through the headers. There is still a bit of the bolt sticking out. Do these bolts come out like the intake manifold ones where I could replace it or are they in there for good? Do I go about the same way replacing the bolt (ordering new from Acura) by just unscrewing and backing it out with some Vice Grips and put the new bolt in or am I pretty much screwed?
Is it OK to go for a little while with this not bolted down? All other 4 bolts are securely in place and the headers aren't going anywhere. The only reason I ask this is because when I made a vid during the install of my XS headers of me revving it with no headers on some guy made a comment saying that I was going to do serious damage and said that is was a "good way to burn up valves".
Thanks in advance

I would get it repaired sooner than later. It will probably cause leaks and in the long run be bad for that cyl. You will have to remove the header there to replace the stud. You should be able to get new studs.
Well I did the repair today...
The broken stud

The front manifold off the car

Some more looks at the stud

Grabbed it with some Vice grips to get it off

The broken stud vs new one

To avoid the teeth marks from the vice grips on your new stud, put on a nut like so and tighten the stud down. DO NOT OVER TORQUE!!

the other method is put 1 nut down halfway the threads and hold it with a wrench- spin another nut down on top of it, holding lower wrench tight- pull the upper nut tight so they are locked together
now the bottem nut can be used to remove, or the upper nut to install, replacements.
Works good when installing intake spacers and some of the big studs get changed out.
