00 TL-P with 115... So my car is acting up lately. I dont know why but it kinda seemed to knock slightly when i accelerated. But I couldn't really tell. So I put it in drive held the brake and press the gas. I got this knocking sound. I just got the motor mounts changed not even a year ago. I was wondering if it was CV Joints? Or maybe something with my alignment. Cause I need some super bad

 

Could be that but it could also be your not using the right kind of gas or you got some crappy gas.

 

I dont think its gas. Kinda sounds like metal.

 

pinging in ur engine....what grade gas u use

 

could you locate where the knocking come from ?Open your hood and listen ....It might come from your valves or if you do not change your oil frequently then you could have a slush oil in your engine that cost the lacking of oil 's flow .......

 

sounds like bad gas. run some fuel system cleaner and fill up with 93 and you should be good to go. i would try this first and if that doesn't work change your oil.

 

What the hell, guys? If he wonders if the knocking could be a CV Joint, and he obviously knows what a CV joint is, why does everyone keep fingering gas? I've used 87 in my TL for most of the time I've had it and never has it EVER knocked with it. But that aside, the knocking is obviously much louder than some pinging from bad gas.

If it makes a "pop" noise when you turn one way or the other, it could be a CV joint.

If the engine is "knocking" fairly loud, I suggest you get a professional diagnosis on that pretty quickly. If you haven't felt a loss of power, it's not the gas. But you could be doing further damage.

 

Hi I have a 2002 TL and it started doing the same thing. It sounds like a susipension knock or pop BOTH when I accellerate and slow down. Could it be a loose brake pad or CV joint? Not worse when turning...

Again only one little 'pop' or 'knock' (not from the engine) when I speed up or slow down?

 

Maybe bad sway bar links? The bushings on those wear out and could cause a knock when the car's weight shifts around.

 

when holdig the car stopped and you get noise at idle or with rpm - may be valve adjustment time- Did you get the water pump timing belt service yet?

 

There is only a knock when the car moves. Nothing in netural or if I hold the brake and gas it.
